PhD is not just a degree; it’s a journey that shapes your career and perspective. 🎓✨

Today, we had an insightful session with Dr. Sijita Bhaduri, a 2018 pass-out from the department of Aerospace Engineering, IIEST Shibpur. Organised by IIEST Alumni networking program in collaboration with ASME IIEST Shibpur student section.What made the session truly special was how honestly she shared her journey—not just the achievements, but also the real challenges, failures, setbacks, and lessons she experienced along the way.

There was no exaggeration, just genuine experiences and practical insights that gave us a more realistic perspective on the PhD journey and research as a career.

From Classroom Concepts to Cutting-Edge Manufacturing!✨

The ASME IIEST Shibpur Student Section successfully organized an academic visit to the Centre of Excellence in Advanced Manufacturing Technology (CoEAMT), IIT Kharagpur, with the support of Sharmishtha Ma’am and under the guidance of our faculty advisor, Dr. Kaustav Pradhan.

The visit provided students with valuable exposure to advanced manufacturing technologies and their industrial applications, including:

• Friction Stir Welding
• Resistance Spot Welding
• Laser Welding
• 4-Axis Filament Winding Machine
• Robotic Laser Vibrometer
• Multi-Sensor Integrated Robotic Systems
• Hybrid Laser-Based Direct Energy Deposition System
• TIG & MIG Welding
• Wire EDM
• Universal Testing Machine (UTM)

The visit offered valuable insights into advanced manufacturing, automation, robotics, material processing and ongoing research opportunities. It also helped bridge the gap between theoretical concepts learned in the classroom and their practical implementation in modern manufacturing environments.

We sincerely thank CoEAMT, IIT Kharagpur, Dr. Sharmishtha Ma’am, Dr. Kaustav Pradhan and ASME for their valuable guidance and support in making this visit an enriching and insightful learning experience.

The ASME IIEST Shibpur Student Section successfully organized a Career Guidance Session with Mr. Rohit Majumdar (Mechanical Engineering, Batch of 2020, IIEST Shibpur | MBA, ISB | Associate Manager, EY-Parthenon).
