Gear up for the 2nd Edition of The Bata IBSA Invitational Quiz!

Brought to you by Bata and the Indo-British Scholars’ Association (IBSA), the event will see around 50 elite teams spanning the public sector, private sector and non-profits, along with university alumni and student teams. Quizmasters Arpan Banerjee and Prasenjit Guha will again host this year.

The 30th Annual General Meeting of the Indo-British Scholars’ Association was an evening of reflection, celebration and new beginnings.

Bringing together members and distinguished guests, the AGM provided an opportunity to look back at the Association’s journey and achievements over the past year, while also welcoming the new Leadership Team and Executive Committee for 2026–27.

The occasion also marked the induction of Dr Subrata Gupta, IAS (Retd.), Advisor to the Hon’ble Chief Minister, as an Advisor to IBSA.

As we look ahead to another year, we remain committed to fostering meaningful conversations, building stronger connections and creating platforms for knowledge and collaboration.

The Indo-British Scholars’ Association is honoured to welcome Dr Subrata Gupta, IAS (Retd.), Advisor to the Hon’ble Chief Minister, as an Honorary Patron to IBSA.

With his distinguished experience and deep understanding of public administration and governance, Dr Subrata Gupta brings valuable perspectives to the Association and its continued efforts to facilitate meaningful dialogue and engagement.

His induction at the 30th Annual General Meeting marks an important addition to the IBSA family. We look forward to his guidance, insights and contribution as we continue to build on the Association’s legacy of knowledge, collaboration and shared learning.

The second edition of the Dr Sandip Chatterjee Memorial Debate was held on Aug 22, 2026 at Calcutta Club.
The Motion "Indians work best as Immigrants" was debated fiercely with dollops of humour, poetry, statistics, theories and banter thrown in.

Proposing the Motion were Ret'd Justice Talukdar, Debdeepta Roy, Supriya Newar and Dr Kaushik Ghosh.
Those in the Opposition included Prof Krishna Sen, Prof Sumantra Bose, Moyuree Mukherjee and IBSA's very own past President Abhrajit Mitra.

Organised jointly by IBSA and Calcutta Debating Circle with the support of Carring Minds, the Debate was Co-Chaired by Dr Kunal Sarkar and Pradeep Gooptu. Present on this occasion was the family of late Dr Sandip Chatterjee. Dr Uttara Chatterjee handed out Citations of Excellence to three outstanding high school debaters.

Late Dr. Sandip Chatterjee, Past President of IBSA and Co-Founder of the Calcutta Debating Circle, was a renowned neurosurgeon whose remarkable contributions extended across Medical Science, Education and social causes. He is also fondly remembered as an avid photographer and a skilled, eloquent and legendary debater.

In his memory, IBSA presents a special debate on the motion:
“Indians work best as Immigrants.”

As a part of its immersion into the artistic and cultural linkages between India and the UK, IBSA members enjoyed an exploration of 70 years of printmaking by the celebrated artist Gulammohammad Sheikh titled Hand Prints/Mind Prints at Tri Art & Culture, an exciting space for innovative artistic and sensory experiences.

A recipient of ARCA from the Royal College of Art, London Sheikh's printmaking journey took us from traditional formats to more innovative contemporary digital outputs and his Accordian Books.

Greatly influenced by Ebstorf maps while in the UK, the artist displayed his Mappa Mundi series where he uses maps as metaphors, questioning colonial borders, memory and geo-political themes. This private viewing and curated walk-through was organised by Madeleine St John Director of TRI and Muskan Sukarchakia, Assistant Curator TRI exclusively for IBSA members and guests.
