Lawful Games & Entertainment
=================
A husband and wife should allocate time for play and recreation. In this, as in all other aspects of life, we have the example of Rasulullahﷺ : Speaking about what took place during a journey she made with Rasulullahﷺ,
'Aishahرضي الله عنه said, "I raced him and I beat him on my two feet. Then, when I carried (more) flesh, I raced him and Heﷺ beat me. Heﷺ then said, 'This one (defeat) for that defeat (i.e., we are now even)."
And in yet another example of how Rasulullahﷺ would play and joke with his wives, he once said to 'Aishah, "Verily, I know when you are pleased with me, and when you are angry with me." She said, "How do you know that?" He said, "When you are pleased with me, you say, 'No, and by the Lord of Muhammad.' And when you are angry with me, you say, 'No, and by the Lord of Ibrahim."" She said, "Yes, by Allâh, O Messenger of Allah, I do not forsake other than your name."
On at least a weekly/monthly basis, husband, wife, and children should get together for outdoor games or sports, or for educational games at home.
Time spent on lawful recreation helps bring the members of a family closer to one another. Sadly, many men these days leave their families, seeking entertainment elsewhere in watching satellite television or in playing card-games with friends. This is how he wastes away the hours of his day, forsaking both his wife and his children. It is not strange, then, that he will get into fights with his wife and that his home will be void of a loving and caring atmosphere.
Too many men these days have taken satellite television to be their second unlawful wife; they live with their real wives not with their mind, soul, and heart, but merely with their bodies, as if they are just fixtures in the house.
What good can they then expect from their wives and children?
