The Canine Project, also known as the Dog Squad Project was started in 2016 by Saving Tiger Society and Tiger Awareness as a pioneer program to minimise crime and poaching in the forests. It was an instant success and has led to a demand for the dogs in multiple locations across India.
At present, the 8th batch of this Canine Project is about to commence with 3 dogs and 6 handlers starting their training at the National Training Centre for Dogs, BSF, Tekanpur.
The dogs are, Bella who is going to Panna Tiger Reserve, Luna for South Balaghat Division and Poppy for Mansoor Division.
Mansoor is a prime and important location because it's going to be the second home after Kuno National Park for the Cheetah reintroduction program.
The dogs undergo a thorough and rigorous training routine for a duration of 9 months and it is a complete module. Every aspect is covered, physical, medical and cognitive development of both the dogs and their handlers. They need to pass a strict exam before they are certified and are sent into active duty.
None of this would be possible without our generous donors and supporters.
We also express our sincere gratitude to M.P Forest Department, M P Tiger Foundation Society, State Tiger Strike Force Madhya Pradesh and a special thanks to Shri Subharanjan Sen Sir IFS PCCF at M.P Forest Department for his excellent leadership and guidance.
