The Canine Project, also known as the Dog Squad Project was started in 2016 by Saving Tiger Society and Tiger Awareness as a pioneer program to minimise crime and poaching in the forests. It was an instant success and has led to a demand for the dogs in multiple locations across India.
At present, the 8th batch of this Canine Project is about to commence with 3 dogs and 6 handlers starting their training at the National Training Centre for Dogs, BSF, Tekanpur.

The dogs are, Bella who is going to Panna Tiger Reserve, Luna for South Balaghat Division and Poppy for Mansoor Division.
Mansoor is a prime and important location because it's going to be the second home after Kuno National Park for the Cheetah reintroduction program.

The dogs undergo a thorough and rigorous training routine for a duration of 9 months and it is a complete module. Every aspect is covered, physical, medical and cognitive development of both the dogs and their handlers. They need to pass a strict exam before they are certified and are sent into active duty.

None of this would be possible without our generous donors and supporters.
We also express our sincere gratitude to M.P Forest Department, M P Tiger Foundation Society, State Tiger Strike Force Madhya Pradesh and a special thanks to Shri Subharanjan Sen Sir IFS PCCF at M.P Forest Department for his excellent leadership and guidance.

Global Tiger Day 29 July 2024.
NGOs, Tiger Reserves, Forest Departments everywhere work round the clock, 365 days on Tiger protection and wildlife conservation. Giving their full capabilities towards keeping our environment and wildlife safe.
However, today is significant as it gives the opportunity to spread awareness, recognise exemplary service, acknowledge and reward the people working so diligently all year round. It also gives the space to add some entertainment, some sports and create a sense of camaraderie between the working staff.
After a gap of a few years, Saving Tiger Society and Tiger Awareness have returned to Panna Tiger Reserve to celebrate Global Tiger Day. The entire community was involved from the local schools children to the forest staff.
For the children drawing and essay competition, quizzes were held.
The main events of the day was a marathon, Run for Tigers' and a rally to highlight the importance of wildlife conservation and protection and our national animal, the tiger.
There was also a volleyball tournament amongst the staff.
Indoors, there were discussions on the topic of tigers and conservation. Prize distribution for all the events held.
Search lights, around 250, were distributed to the entire staff of Panna by Saving Tiger Society and Tiger Awareness.
31 July 2024 is World Rangers Day. Keeping that in mind, 4 staff were chosen for their dedicated service and excellent work in the field. They were felicitated with a certificate and some prize money.
A day full of activities, fun with well deserved rewards and recognition.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to FD Mrs Anjana Tirki IFS for her expert leadership and support, DFD Panna TR, AD Panna, SDOs, RO and all the staff of Panna Tiger Reserve for their excellent cooperation.

We the Saving Tiger Society is extremely thankful to our supporter and Donors who have been a part of this project from the beginning. Their constant help and support is sincerely appreciated.

On 26 July 2024, it was International Mangrove Day.
Mangroves are a unique species and are found in very few places in the world. They are a fragile ecosystem yet they play a very important role in the environment and contribute towards its preservation.
It's a known fact that Sundarbans is the world's largest contiguous mangrove forest. It's also in danger. Years of decimation in the form of forest encroachment, urban development, pollution, over exploitation of fishing, timber etc have led to this situation.

Saving Tiger Society and Tiger Awareness have been working at ground level for many years now in Sundarbans. Projects for reforestion specially with the native species of Mangrove trees has been ongoing.
As it was such a significant day, a special Mangrove tree planting was done with the village ladies of the area. They are included in programs like as it generates awareness and also helps them understand their environment and how to safe guard it as they live there and are the best contributors towards preservation. The women get monetary compensation for doing this work as well as an additional amount for 3 months post plantation for the maintenance of the plants. This helps them with some additional income for themselves as women don't get many opportunities to earn.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to our team in Sundarbans, our wellwishers for their support and faith in us.

Earlier we had posted about the Installation of Early Warning Devices to mitigate Human-Elephant conflict in Kharagpur Forest Division. This is being implemented by Saving Tiger Society and Tiger Awareness.
That was the first phase of installing the devices. These devices are great at sending out a warning well in time for the necessary steps to be taken so that there is no undue harm caused to either humans or the wildlife, mostly elephants in this case.

The second phase of the Installation has begun which will result in the completion of all devices that were to be installed in the Kharagpur Forest Division.

We are very grateful to the PCCF Wildlife & CWLW, A.PCCF Wildlife, Wildlife Wing, DFO and all ground staff of Kharagpur Division of W.B Forest Department for their complete support and cooperation.
We the Saving Tiger Society is extremely thankful to our supporter and Donors who have been a part of this project from the beginning. Their constant help and support is sincerely appreciated.
