The South Asian Forum for Environment (SAFE) Trust, Kolkata, a UN and APN-recognized organisation working on sustainable development, invites applications from eminent academicians, scientists, policy leaders, and institution builders for appointment to the prestigious position of Director General of the International Centre for Adaptive Research in Science of Indigenous Sustainability (ICARSIS).
ICARSIS is being established as an independent international centre of excellence dedicated to advancing research, innovation, policy, education, and global partnerships on the science of indigenous sustainability. The Centre seeks to integrate traditional knowledge systems with modern science to address global challenges related to climate change, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, sustainable agriculture, natural resource management, and resilient livelihoods in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Director General will provide visionary leadership to establish ICARSIS as a globally recognized institution for interdisciplinary research, evidence-based policy development, capacity building, and international cooperation.

โ€ข An outstanding record of internationally recognized research and scholarly contributions.
โ€ข At least 20 years of progressively responsible professional experience, including significant leadership in research, higher education, policy, or international development institutions.

On World Decarbonization Day, the urgency of the low-carbon transition becomes even more evident in climate-vulnerable regions such as the Sundarbans. Spread across 102 islands, the region relies extensively on diesel-based transport, including over 9,550 fishing boats, 4,700 tourist vessels, and 170 ferry services.
The widespread use of low-quality fuel, coupled with the absence of emission control systems such as ๐ƒ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ๐ž๐ฅ ๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐œ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐š๐ญ๐ž ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ฅ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ (๐ƒ๐๐…) and ๐’๐ž๐ฅ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐‚๐š๐ญ๐š๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ญ๐ข๐œ ๐‘๐ž๐๐ฎ๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง (๐’๐‚๐‘), has led to a sharp rise in pollutants like ๐’๐Ž๐ฑ, ๐๐Ž๐ฑ, ๐‚๐Ž, and ๐’๐๐Œ, worsening air quality and threatening both public health and fragile ecosystems.
Against this backdrop, the ENTRUST (Energy Neutral Transport for Rivers & Uplands of Sundarbans Terrain) initiative, implemented by SAFE with support from HSBC, presents a clean mobility pathway. By introducing solar-powered, energy-neutral transport solutions, the project aims to reduce fossil fuel dependence and promote sustainable connectivity across the region.
Even at a pilot scale, with ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฑ ๐›๐จ๐š๐ญ๐ฌ and 18 ๐ž-๐ฏ๐š๐ง๐ฌ, ๐„๐๐“๐‘๐”๐’๐“ can ๐š๐›๐š๐ญ๐ž 146 ๐ฆ๐ž๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐œ ๐ญ๐จ๐ง๐ง๐ž๐ฌ of ๐‚๐Žโ‚‚ equivalent annually. While limited in scope, it demonstrates the potential for scalable, low-emission transport solutions in the region.

The 64th Sessions of the Subsidiary Bodies bring together science and policy through SBSTA, and align implementation with commitments through SBI, collectively charting the pathways that will guide future global climate decisions.
