Calcutta Rescue Calcutta Rescue is a registered non – governmental organization operating in Kolkata and West Bengal Thus Calcutta Rescue was born.

In 1979, a British doctor, Jack Preger started a street clinic on Middleton Row, Park Street to treat the neediest and poorest of the people living on the streets and in the slums of Kolkata & parts of rural West Bengal. Calcutta Rescue is now a registered non-governmental organization. The charity provides free medical care, education, sanitation, employment and mental health support to the most deserving, needy & poor in Kolkata and parts of rural Bengal.

Calcutta Rescue started in 1979 when a British doctor, Jack Preger M.B.E. started a street clinic on Middleton Row to treat the most needy and poorest of the people living on the streets and in the slums of Kolkata & parts of rural West Bengal.

  • We serve people who are helped by none and “rescue” people from the consequences of ill-health, illiteracy and poverty by providing good healthcare, quality education for children and development of skills which would ultimately lead to employment opportunities and a stable income.
