Calcutta Rescue is a registered non – governmental organization operating in Kolkata and West Bengal Thus Calcutta Rescue was born.

In 1979, a British doctor, Jack Preger started a street clinic on Middleton Row, Park Street to treat the neediest and poorest of the people living on the streets and in the slums of Kolkata & parts of rural West Bengal. Calcutta Rescue is now a registered non-governmental organization. The charity provides free medical care, education, sanitation, employment and mental health support to the most deserving, needy & poor in Kolkata and parts of rural Bengal.

Every child learns and grows in their own way. In association with Alakendu Bodh Niketan, Calcutta Rescue conducted a General Assessment for children with special needs, focusing on their individual abilities, needs and areas of development.

Heart health begins with awareness.

On World Heart Day, Tangra Clinic, Calcutta Rescue, conducted an engaging awareness session on heart health, encouraging community members to understand the importance of prevention, healthy habits and timely care.

With 67 participants taking part, the session was a meaningful step towards building a healthier, more informed community.

Celebrating Young Talent!

We are delighted to celebrate Sumana Maity, an 11-year-old student of Calcutta Rescue’s Pathshala Education Project, for her outstanding performance at the Annual Intra Club Swimming Competition organised by Tala Sports Ally.

1st Position: Freestyle & Freestyle Relay.
2nd Position: Backstroke & Mixed Relay.

Sumana’s dedication, discipline and love for swimming continue to inspire us. We are incredibly proud of her achievements and look forward to seeing her reach many more milestones.

Breaking the Silence, One Conversation at a Time

At Calcutta Rescue, we believe that awareness is the first step towards better health and dignity. Through an awareness programme in the slum community, we spoke openly about menstrual health and hygiene and distributed sanitary napkins to women and girls.

Beyond the distribution, the programme was about creating a safe space to ask questions, share concerns and understand the importance of menstrual hygiene. Because access to the right information and basic healthcare should never depend on where someone lives.

World Patient Safety Day at Tangra Clinic

On 17 September, we observed World Patient Safety Day with an awareness session at Tangra Clinic. The session focused on the importance of patient safety and building greater awareness around safe and informed healthcare practices.

We were glad to have 25 participants join the session and engage in this important conversation. Every step towards awareness is a step towards safer care and healthier communities.

Learning, Creating & Exploring with Canva

The Pathshala Education Project, Calcutta Rescue, was delighted to welcome the Canva Education team for an engaging, hands-on workshop on the basics of Canva Education, offered free of cost.

Over 1.5 hours, 22 senior students explored the world of digital design, learning how to turn their ideas into creative visuals and meaningful stories.

A heartfelt thank you to the Canva Education team for sharing their time, knowledge and creativity, and making learning such an inspiring experience for our students.

International Literacy Day Celebration at Pathshala

Pathshala Education Project of Calcutta Rescue celebrated International Literacy Day with enthusiasm and active participation from our students. The day was filled with meaningful and engaging activities, including literacy games, slogan writing, and the “My Learning, My Dream” activity, where students shared their thoughts on why education is important in their lives and how it can help them achieve their dreams.

The celebration concluded with the inspiring “Each One, Teach One” pledge, encouraging our students to share the gift of learning with others.

It was a joyful and meaningful day that reminded us that education is not just about learning - it is about building dreams, confidence and a better future.

This Teachers' Day, our students at Pathsala Education Project of Calcutta Rescue turned the classroom into a stage of gratitude! 💛

From heartfelt performances - songs, dance, and cute little skits - to *handmade cards* and gifts crafted with so much love, our students found beautiful ways to say "thank you" to the teachers who show up for them every single day. 🎁✨
