Kolkata Literary Meet

Kolkata Literary Meet Join us for Kolkata's biggest tryst with books and authors at the 15th edition of KaLaM from Jan 23 - 27, 2027. No registrations, no passes, no tickets.

The Kolkata Literary Meet – or Kalam, which is our preferred daaknaam – was overwhelmingly well-received when we debuted at the Kolkata Book Fair in January 2012. Our focus is to present writers from all over the globe, writers of as many different genres as possible, alongside speakers representing India. With topics as varied as history, sport, geopolitics and cinema, there’s something for every

one. Just turn up, participate in the discussions, get involved in the debates and enjoy the tales that some of the greatest storytellers of our times will be sharing with you. Kolkata Literary Meet is a meet that caters to you, the reader. So sit back and enjoy a sumptuous literary feast. From classics to chick-lit and from Rabindranath Tagore to Chandrabindoo, every year we try to cover everything, and more...

The Kolkata Literary Meet is not about the writers, it’s about you, the reader. We have brought, and will keep bringing, some of the best writers to you so that you can re-discover the wonderful world of books and writing, all over again.

Happy Birthday to the evergreen, Mr. Bond! 🥳

On his birthday, we celebrate the storyteller whose words continue to spark wonder, imagination and a love for reading across generations. ✨

On this special day, we to 2016, when Ruskin Bond and Jayant Kripalani came together at the Kolkata Literary Meet for - Reading and a Child’s Imagination: Ruskin Bond on the fine art of writing for children. ✍️📚

Some storytellers write books, others quietly become a part of our childhoods forever. And somehow, even after all these years, his stories still feel like home. 🤍

On Rabindranath Tagore’s 165th birth anniversary, we look back at a memorable evening from January 23, 2016, when Soumitra Chatterjee and Mukhomukhi brought Tagore’s ‘Boshtomi’ to the stage at the Indian Museum.

Presented by the Kolkata Literary Meet, this adaptation of a Rabindranath Tagore short story remains a beautiful reminder of how his words continue to live on through performance, literature, and art. ✨

A lovely curtain raiser evening of ‘The Farewell Letter’ - a stage reading in English of Rabindranath Tagore’s Shesher Kobita’ at Byloom that was in collaboration with the Exide Kolkata Literary Meet.

We revisited the story through readings and a conversation and we were so grateful to everyone who came and made it extra special. 🙏

Raghu Rai (1942-2026), seen here at the 2015 edition of the Kolkata Literary Meet, in conversation with Malavika Karlekar.
It was a wonderful and warm conversation on photography, Rai’s life and much else. One of my lasting memories of that session is how even intrepid photographers became fans on the side of the stage and focussed on getting photos with him rather than of him.
Raghu Rai chronicled India and Kolkata in particular, creating a body of haunting memorable images of a nation’s flashpoints.
His shots of Kolkata’s streets to those of Satyajit Ray at work and Mother Teresa at the Missionaries of Charity are memorable and evidence of how special our city was to him. Travel well sir, Om Shanti

Jeet and Malavika Banerjee didn’t just reject the phrase “kichhu hobe na”, they worked against it, every single day!

Through vision, effort and alot of determination, ‘The City Of Joy’ echoed back that same belief.

Today, Gameplan stands tall - a testament to what their belief and relentless hard work have built. A story that continues to grow with time.
