CAPE Foundation spent a beautiful evening with the children undergoing cancer treatment at St. Jude India ChildCare Centre, creating moments of joy, laughter and companionship through puppetry and Animal-Assisted Therapy.

For children and families going through the immense challenges of cancer treatment, a little laughter can mean so much. Our puppetry session brought stories and imagination to life, while the presence of our animal companions offered warmth, comfort and a much-needed sense of normalcy.

It was an evening of wagging tails, curious little faces, laughter and wonderful moments of connection.

At CAPE Foundation, we believe that healing is not only about medicine, it is also about hope, happiness and the simple joy of being a child.

Thank you to the wonderful team at St. Jude India ChildCare Centres for giving us the opportunity to share this special evening with these brave young children.

A special thank you to the three wonderful student volunteers from the Interact Club of Calcutta Visionaries, who joined us and enthusiastically helped throughout the evening and to Bo and River our wonderful therapy dogs!

Back-to-Back Rescues by CAPE Foundation Foundation & PETA India

After a two-day search, we finally managed to locate this horse. He was being kept in deplorable and completely unacceptable conditions.

He could barely walk, dragging his hind limbs behind him. His joints were severely swollen, and his hooves were infected and in a shocking condition.

We also faced resistance from the so-called owner, who repeatedly threatened not to release him.

After extensive paperwork at Hastings Police Station, the horse finally left for what we hope will be his permanent home at the shelter, where he will receive the much-needed love, care and treatment he so desperately deserves.

But our fight is not over.

Our legal battle for his custody will continue in court. We will do everything in our power to ensure that he is not returned to the conditions from which he was rescued.

One more horse given a chance at a life free from suffering.

This is the condition in which horses are being kept under the Hastings Flyover—hidden away from public eyes.
Their hooves buried in muck and filth, standing for hours in unhygienic and deplorable conditions.

One of the horses was found in particularly poor condition and was rescued by CAPE Foundation and PETA India. He has now been moved to a shelter, where he will receive the care and treatment he urgently needs.

Behind the flyovers and away from public view, these animals continue to suffer. Their suffering cannot be ignored simply because it is hidden from us.

CAPE Foundation continues its efforts to rescue, document and pursue legal action to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

CAPE Foundation had the privilege of conducting an inspiring session on Environmental issues and Tiger Conservation for the Environmental Science students of La Martiniere for Girls.

The session was delivered by Shri Pradeep Vyas former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Chief Wildlife Warden, West Bengal, who served with distinction in the Indian Forest Service for over 34 years. A former Field Director of both the Sundarban Tiger Reserve and Buxa Tiger Reserve, Shri Vyas has played a pivotal role in the conservation of tigers and other wildlife.

The interactive session highlighted the importance of biodiversity conservation, tiger protection, and the role of young people in safeguarding our environment.

Justice delayed, but not denied.

A Public Interest Litigation filed by CAPE Foundation in 2008 has finally culminated in a significant judicial order. After years of persistent legal efforts, we now await the response of the West Bengal Forest Department, which is accountable for the whereabouts and welfare of these elephants.

The Calcutta High Court also directed the West Bengal government to provide details of the measures taken to identify and bring back the 21 captive elephants transported out of the state.

We had a new visitor join us to share our food at today's horse-feeding session.

Sadly, despite the law, we still see madaris dragging monkeys through our cities, forcing them to perform and live lives of fear and deprivation. What is even more worrying is that the recent reduction in the level of protection afforded to the Rhesus Macaque under the Wildlife (Protection) Act has, left this intelligent and sensitive species even more vulnerable to exploitation and cruelty.

Every animal deserves to live free from suffering, not as a source of entertainment. CAPE Foundation will continue to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Feeding community animals responsibly can help avoid unnecessary conflicts with those who may not be animal lovers.

Simple measures such as feeding animals in clean bowls, choosing locations away from busy walkways and entrances, and cleaning up the area after feeding can make a significant difference. Responsible feeding not only ensures that animals are cared for but also helps maintain cleanliness, prevents inconvenience to others, and promotes harmony within the community.

Compassion and responsibility must go hand in hand. By being considerate of both animals and fellow residents, we can create a more peaceful and inclusive environment for everyone.

Here are some photographs showcasing how the CAPE Foundation team conducts its daily community animal feeding drives responsibly and without conflict. By maintaining cleanliness, using feeding bowls, and ensuring that feeding takes place in appropriate locations, our team demonstrate that animal welfare and community harmony can successfully coexist.

Our Weekly horse feeding drive at the Maidan was made even more special by the enthusiastic participation of some college student volunteers. As part of CAPE Foundation 's internship program, these young changemakers joined us on the field, learning firsthand about animal welfare, compassion, and community service.
From preparing feed to interacting with the horses and understanding the challenges faced by working animals, the students gained valuable practical experience while contributing meaningfully to the welfare of the horses.
