Anando Anando is a young non-profit organisation working in the field of child welfare. We also run a book and toy library.

We work on issues related to the protection and education of disadvantaged children. We seek to improve the way the children spend their leisure hours and help them cope with the pressures of education. Our programmes include provision of school support and encouraging positive recreation.

A few days ago, the senior students of Anander Pathshala took a trip nearly 5000 years back in time… The destination? The Indus Valley Civilisation! And the purpose? To explore this ancient civilisation through its jewellery.

They began by observing images of ornaments excavated from sites like Harappa and Mohenjodaro, while the teachers highlighted the materials and stones used in that era. They were also shown some statues from that time, including the well-known ‘Dancing Girl’, to understand how different ornaments were worn.

Then came the fun part! Each pair of students was assigned a different part of the body - ear, neck, upper arm, wrist and waist. Putting their creative thinking caps on, they designed their own jewellery inspired by what they had seen. We watched in fascination as history came alive through their unique creations!

Shubho Nababarsha to everyone! As we step into the Bengali new year, we would like to share with you another "new" at Anando. In March this year Anando extended its wings a little bit more and started working with a new government-aided primary school. The Baradasundori Balika Bidyalaya is located in Dhakuria. Run by a team of caring teachers, this school caters to many differently abled children.

We plan to conduct creative sessions with the students, choosing topics from their syllabus so that their learning is reinforced. Craft, action rhymes, games continue to form the basis of our school partnership programme, Spoorti.

A new partnership, new skills to be learnt and a new bunch of kids to work with....exciting is an understatement! So here's to new beginnings in this new year!

We have many exciting activities lines up for the Hottogol children this year ! We want them to explore their creative sides and let their imaginations run wild. So a few Sundays ago, we decided to exploring the idea of negative spaces. Negative spaces are the empty spaces which surround the main subject. We wanted to find out the effect of colouring in these spaces instead of the main subject. And what happened was pure drama!

Early this month the children of Anander Pathshala, Anando's after-school tutorial programme, were invited to Sushila Birla Girls School to visit their science labs. The higher secondary science students of the school demonstrated various Physics and Chemistry principles and encouraged our students to try their hands at simple experiments. Many of the Anando children had never been inside a science laboratory before and were wide-eyed with wonder! Thank you, Sushila Birla Girls' School and all the teachers and students who made this possible!
