Help Me Fight a Rare Disease and Get a Kidney Transplant
My name is Adrija De, and I am 23 years old. My life changed forever in October 2020, when I suddenly fell seriously ill at the age of 17. I was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Kolkata, but my condition continued to worsen. Refusing to give up, my father—the sole earning member of our family—took me to Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore in search of better treatment.
At CMC, I was diagnosed with Secondary AA Amyloidosis, a rare disease that had already caused severe and irreversible damage to my kidneys. I was fortunate to receive treatment from specialists experienced in managing this condition. The treatment helped stop the disease from progressing further, but it could not restore my lost kidney function.
For nearly six years, my family has fought this battle with unwavering determination. We have spent over ₹80 lakh on hospitalizations, medicines, specialized treatment, tests, and travel, exhausting our savings in the process.
Today, I survive only because of Peritoneal Dialysis, which I undergo every day. My monthly medical expenses are around ₹35,000 for dialysis and ₹26,000 for medicines and life-saving injections, apart from regular consultations and investigations.
My doctors have advised that a kidney transplant, costing approximately ₹20 lakh, is my best hope for a healthy future. Unfortunately, after years of treatment, this amount is beyond our family's means.
Despite everything, I continued my education and am currently pursuing my Master of Computer Applications (MCA), hoping to build a career and support my parents one day.
