An important programme for Small Tea Growers was successfully organised on 3 August 2026 at Sittong, Darjeeling, under the aegis of the Tea Board of India, with the objective of enhancing the livelihood and income of small tea growers.
The programme was inspired by the visionary leadership of C. Murugan, IAS, Deputy Chairman, Tea Board of India, who emphasized that Small Tea Growers should establish Mini Tea Factories to promote entrepreneurship, increase value addition, strengthen tea marketing, and enhance their income. His vision aims to empower tea growers through sustainable and self-reliant tea production.
This was the first programme of its kind in the Sittong area, attended by the top leadership of the Tea Board of India. The presence of senior officials provided an excellent platform for direct interaction with tea growers, enabling them to gain valuable guidance on modern tea cultivation, processing, quality improvement, marketing opportunities, and government support initiatives.
Sundarban Dream took the initiative to organise this significant programme for the upliftment and socio-economic development of the Small Tea Growers’ community in Sittong, Darjeeling. The event served as an important milestone in promoting sustainable tea-based livelihoods in the region.
The Small Tea Growers expressed their heartfelt appreciation and satisfaction for the inspiring guidance and practical direction provided by Shri C. Murugan, IAS. Tea Board officials also shared valuable information, technical knowledge, and innovative development strategies for strengthening the tea sector.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing sincere gratitude to Shri C. Murugan, IAS, the Tea Board of India, and all the officials for their visionary leadership, commitment, and unwavering support towards empowering the Small Tea Growers’ community and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities in the Darjeeling hills.
