Friends,
Yesterday I wrote about Mr. Soan, who has been under treatment and care at the IIMC-run handicapped children's rehabilitation center (At Sonarpur, Kolkata, India) called Dishari. Today, I would like to share more about Soan and his family background.

Soan was born in a very poor family in a rural setting near Sonarpur, India. Born to father Khairul and mother Sabera, Soan was completely disabled from birth, unable to sit, stand, or walk due to his dysfunctional nervous system.

The parents took the newborn boy to IIMC's head, Dr. Sujit Brahmachari, and his wife, Barnali Brahmachari, for medical treatment and care. Seeing the pitiable condition of Soan's parents, the doctor couple took on the responsibility of the entire family, including Soan, through their organization (IIMC).

For almost last two decades, Soan has been growing up with great love, care and attention of IIMC volunteers, and his family has been living a healthy and normal life. Thanks to IIMC's love, affection, and financial support to Soan and his family.

Soan's family is incredibly grateful for IIMC's support, and in return, they have dedicated themselves as volunteers to the organization. It's impossible to describe the kind of human bonding/ relationship that IIMC has with Soan's family and thousands of such other marginalized families without seeing it with your own eyes. The close relationship and the way IIMC has helped them find a way to live a healthy and respectable normal life from a difficult social and economic environment is truly remarkable/unbelievable in today's market world where human relations are also being governed by give and take relations for profit.

The work of IIMC is a testament to the power of compassion and dedication. Despite being a remarkable organization with limited resources, IIMC has achieved incredible popularity among its people in its working area. Today's leaders and ministers who govern us at Centre and States, should learn a lot from IIMC's experience and approach to welfare to the needy people. While they (ruling polity) focus on private market solutions devoid of human values, IIMC's work shows that a different humanitarian path is possible.

IIMC's work is not just about providing support; it is about creating a sense of community bonding and belongingness. The organization's approach is holistic, addressing the physical, emotional, and social needs of its beneficiaries. It is an inspiring example of what can be achieved when people come together to make a difference.

As I reflect on Soan's story and the work of IIMC, I am reminded of the importance of empathy and kindness not in a casual manner but with sincerity and responsibility. In a world that often prioritizes profit over people's felt needs, IIMC's work is a beacon of hope. It is a reminder that we all have the power to make a positive impact in the lives of others.

The impact of IIMC's work goes beyond the individuals they support; it has a ripple effect on the community as a whole. By providing a safety net and support system, IIMC is helping to create a more compassionate and caring society.

Soan's story is just one example of the many thousands lives touched by IIMC. The organization's work is a testament to the human spirit and the difference that one person or organization can make. It is an inspiration to us all to make a positive impact in the world.

If we think that IIMC's path is an ideal one, then let's take an oath to walk that path and accelerate its pace further. We can all learn from IIMC's example and strive to make a difference in the lives of others.

The question is, can we replicate the IIMC model on a larger scale? Can we create a society that values compassion, empathy, and kindness above profit and material gain? I believe that we can, and that it is up to each and every one of us to make a difference.

Let's draw inspiration from IIMC's work and strive to create a more just and compassionate society. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and future generations to make the world a better place.

In conclusion, IIMC's work is a shining example of what can be achieved when people come together to make a difference. Let us all take a step forward and join hands to accelerate the pace of this great work.

Friends,

About 16% of the world's population, or approximately 1.3 billion people, experience some form of significant disability, with India's prevalence estimated at 4.52%, translating to roughly 6 crore people. Despite the plethora of rehabilitation programs launched by the Central and state governments, many disabled individuals can still be seen begging on streets and public places. In my opinion, what these government-sponsored programs lack is empathy, kinship, compassion, sincerity, and a sense of responsibility to approach the task as a mission rather than just a program. Exceptionally, institution like
IIMC Sonarpur, India, possess these qualities, making it highly capable of managing handicap rehabilitation successfully, as evident in cases like Soan, who has made remarkable progress, passing his intermediate examination this year and gradually recovering from a hopeless stage to a lively one. We should salute and support the endeavors of IIMC for its unwavering efforts in correcting society by pouring values, love, and life into it.
