Calcutta Social Project

Calcutta Social Project Multiple Programmes with a Single Goal Calcutta Social Project (CSP) works with Street Children and Slum Children, of Kolkata, India.

The single minded focus of work is to create opportunity for such children to access education and skills that will ultimately enable them to stand on their own feet as socially productive citizens. CSP has 42 years of experience in working for the poorest of the poor in Kolkata. It has and is being supported in various programs by the Central and State Governments of India, by donors of the stat

ure of Nobel Laureate Mr Gunter Grass, and overseas and national associates of more than 30 years standing. . Once CSP takes up a child in this street and slum children program it ensures that the child, at the very least, completes High School and, wherever feasible, graduation. CSP has always been working to reduce gender inequality in literacy with an overwhelming number of its underprivileged beneficiaries being female
Where the child is wanting in the academic potential to go for graduation, CSP tries to provide skills training of vocational nature to inculcate Income Generating Skills. Calcutta Social Project runs a Girls Shelter Home , a Boys Open Shelter, Day Care centres , four education centres for street and slum children , two free computer education centres for underprivileged slum and street youths and a formal, Government affiliated Primary school incorporating a Balwadi or kindergarten. The Project being submitted relates to the Primary School and Kindergarten and its ancillary support systems originating from the Girls Shelter Home.. The Primary school and Kindergarten are located adjacent to a large slum . Its students come from the nearby slums but mainly from the CSP Girls Shelter Home and the Boys Open Shelter. The Boys Open Shelter is fully funded by the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) of the Govt of India. The Girls Shelter Home has applied for similar support from ICPS and all inspections and formalities have been completed

From the innocent, flower-wielding Sabeki Durga, to the knowledgeable and prosperous Wise Durga, and the confident, powerful Modern Durga, Maa Durga inspires us across generations.

At CSP, we strive to nurture children with faith, knowledge, courage, and justice, building the leaders of tomorrow with the same spirit of Shakti and ability to be Dashabhuja.

Wishing everyone a joyous and blessed Durga Puja!

At Calcutta Social Project, we believe in our education programs being designed and implemented in ways that allow us to transform lives by offering quality learning, digital support, mentorship and a strong peer network.

As children grow with knowledge and confidence, we see the truth in Benjamin Franklin’s words: “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” Together, we are not only empowering the present generation but also planting seeds of hope for the generations to come.

On the 29th 0f August 2025, CSP hosted its 53rd Annual General Meeting .

The theme for the year in review was Transforming Lives, Inspiring Change.

Throughout our journey, we have grown with one purpose at heart — to transform the lives of children from disadvantaged backgrounds. From education to skills training, we have built an ecosystem that gives them not just tools for survival, but the confidence to shape their own futures as employable, independent young adults.

At the core of our mission lies a belief that true change begins when barriers of birth, caste, creed, or circumstance are broken — and when children rise above them to become role models within their communities. It should not the conditions they are born into that define them, but the choices they make and the lives they inspire. These role models spark ripples of transformation, proving that progress is contagious when given the chance to take root.

As we continue to expand our reach, we celebrate the steps already taken and the lives already changed. Yet the journey ahead depends on the collective will to nurture more changemakers.

With your support, we can ensure that every child has not only the opportunity to succeed, but the power to inspire others.

Together, we can build a society where potential is not limited by circumstance, and where every success story lights the way for many more to follow.
