January 2026 (Pune) - Yesterday morning our student Muskan Sah in Pune suffered a serious accident while walking to school with another one of our kids from their slum community. When a car stopped to let them through, suddenly a motorbike came upon them when the driver failed to break in time striking both girls. Muskan was hit hard on her legs while Raksh*ta sustained minor bruises. The motorbike driver fled the scene as local folks scrambled to help.

Our city director and family health program director both sprang into immediate action, arriving quickly at the hospital along with Muskan’s father to help resolve the situation.

Muskan has two fractures in her left leg, diagnosed as Left Tibia–Fibula Shaft Fracture. She requires immediate surgery, involving nail/rod implantation to support the fracture. The first hospital has given a rough estimate of 2.1LK for the entire procedure (surgery, recovery, medicines and treatments.) We have now moved her to another hospital to try and reduce the cost.

Doctors have advised approximately 1.5 months of post-operative care and recovery which coincides with a crucial school period for her class and upcoming exams. We will have to work diligently with her teachers and classmates to make sure she doesn’t miss much of her lessons and can submit her exams accordingly.

Any help you could send our way would be GREATLY appreciated. This unexpected accident will drain our already strained resources, and we have yearly school admissions coming up for three dozen students in our scholarship program which is the main focus of our work.
