Swapnopuron Welfare Society Swapnopuron Welfare Society started its journey to educate children on the island of Sundarbans. of West Bengal Societies Registration Act.

Katakhali Swapnopuron Welfare Society is a non-profit community based organization, registered under the Govt. KSWS offers various activities to the local children, youth and women with the aim to bring about a change in their socio-economic conditions and progress towards self empowerment. Further, to enable the local community to learn to live with dignity, self reliance and harmony. In order to

achieve these objectives, KSWS emphasizes on holistic education including awareness of healthy living, hygiene and fitness. The Society offers vocational training programs to, particularly, facilitate self-help and employment opportunities. KSWS runs the school, “Swapnopuron” with the aim to fulfill the needs of its immediate community. “Swapnopuron” in Bengali means ‘fulfillment of dream’ – an apt name for the mission of KSWS indeed.Swapnopuron is the only English-medium school in the heart of Sunderbans. The schools under SWS offer multi-sectoral teaching, with music, dance, drama, story-telling, workshops, etc. that brings home tools like phonetic teaching, experiential learning, hands-on learning, cognitive reinforcement, interpersonal and communication development, etc. Moreover, with periodic community meetings, the organization works
toward the holistic development of society. SWS also offers weekly webinars/live sessions on its social media platform that target critical
issues of interpersonal and intrapersonal growth. Our Vision
Swapnopuron Welfare Society aims to empower, enlighten and engage young minds,
propagate quality English-medium education and enable every child of the remote
islands of Sunderbans to unleash his/her full potential and emerge as a true victor in
life! Our Mission
Creating a value-based society for women, children and adolescents of the remote areas of Sunderbans, with the aim of ensuring their entitlements through a rights-based approach, by the means of enhancing community participation and system
strengthening.

Our Story

We would like to introduce ourselves as one of the NGOs in West Bengal working primarily on Education and Child Protection issues. Our core project is based in Hingalganj, Sunderban, North 24 Parganas. We have been working in more than 4 islands in Sunderbans on Education, Child Protection and Adolescent issues and have been able to reach out to more than 2500 children over the years through our direct programme interventions. Apart from that we have been working closely with West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights (WBCPCR), District Police and Administration on Child Protection issues.

The organisation has set up an English medium formal school in Hingalganj and currently 200 children are enrolled. We are looking for support in terms of text books for these children. It would be really helpful if you could connect us with any individual / group who could extend support with the text books of the children.

Apart from this school, we also work on Child Protection, Adolescent Health & Nutrition issues in these islands.
