James’ School Alumni Association, is a Society registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1961. Marcus Rodrick (Student of St. James’ School and Former Senior Headmaster and Vice Principal), and approached the Principal at the time - Mr. Daryl Bloud, who was from the very start very open to concept of having the former students of the School, united under one banner, and hoped th

at the various talents and scope that the students possessed, would be put to serving the School and Country undaunted. The Society, has been growing steadily over the years, and has now above 320 members. The society holds the Independence Cup - football played (player with four house teams, one prefects’ team, one senior staff teams, one service staff teams two alumni teams and one parents teams) on School grounds on 15th August every year. These games have always got the former students, staff, present students to a common platform and spread the message of the School’s well being and the Societies existence. Since the beginning, the Society also started hosting the Annual Dinner. In the first year, Mr. Daryl Bloud had all the classrooms opened, and lightened, which was a great step in creating nostalgia, for the students visiting the school, on that day. Over the years, the Society has co-sponsored various functions, treatments, which involved the school or former students. The members of the Alumni, are encouraged to be present at the Founder’s Day Service, held on the 25th day of July, every year. Students of class 12, are encouraged to join the Alumni, with the help of the School authorities, like the teachers, prefects etc.]

With deep shock and sorrow, we mourn the untimely passing of Jacobean Suhel Coomar (Batch of 2006), who left us on 14th April, 2026 following a cardiac arrest. He was just 38.
It is difficult to come to terms with the loss of someone so vibrant and full of life at such a young age. Suhel was a wonderful friend, remembered for his warmth, kindness, and the joy he brought to those around him. Those who knew him feel truly fortunate to have shared in his life.
His sudden passing leaves a void that words can scarcely express.
Our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who loved him. May his soul rest in peace.

With deep sadness we mourn the passing of Mr. David Sayers, one of the stalwarts of St. James’ School, who left us today at around 3:30 p.m. at Tollygunge Homes.
A strict teacher with a soft heart, Sir was someone generations of students looked up to with immense respect. A man of many talents, brilliant athlete, extraordinary artist whose work still adorns our corridors, excellent chef, designer and passionate gardener, he truly wore several hats with effortless grace.
His creativity and dedication shaped many aspects of school life, including the house mottos and designs that continue to inspire students even today.
Many will forever remember his commanding presence during school sports and the beating of his drum, a sound that still echoes in our memories. A familiar spark remained within him throughout, the spirit of a true maestro who devoted so much to the school and its students.
St. James’ has lost one of its finest.
You will always be remembered, Sir.
Rest in Peace. 🙏

Heartbroken to hear about the passing of Meenakshi Atal Ma’am. To us the Jacobeans, she was not just an educationist, but a gentle guiding force who always saw the child before the syllabus and the human before the rulebook.
As the Ex-Head of the Junior School, she shaped countless young minds with compassion and vision. Her belief in nurturing curiosity and empathy went far beyond academics. We will always remember how her words could bring instant clarity, how she encouraged children and teachers to question, to imagine, and to carry kindness into the world.
Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering faith in creative education have left an indelible mark on our lives and on the heritage of our school. It feels as though a light has gone out, yet her spirit will continue to shine through every student and teacher whose lives she touched.
After a brave battle with pancreatic cancer over the past year, she spent her final days in the UK with her younger daughter, surrounded by love and care.
Our deepest condolences and prayers go out to her family and all who were fortunate enough to walk even a little while alongside her. Her legacy of love and learning will live on forever.
