Did you know the story of Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers led by Rupak Saha?

The story of Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers is a remarkable narrative of resilience, cultural preservation, and a transition from a local heritage brand into an influential, high-fashion jewelry house. Led by Rupak Saha alongside his wife Arpita Saha, the brand has successfully bridged the gap between timeless Indian tradition and modern global fashion.

The Origins: Resilience and a New Beginning

The foundations of the brand stretch back over sixty years. The journey originally began in Dhaka (in present-day Bangladesh). However, the massive disruptions of the Partition forced a relocation.

The family laid down new roots in **Agartala, Tripura**, where the jewelry house was formally established by the late **G.C. Saha**, a prominent figure in Agartala society. Under his guidance, the store earned a sterling reputation across the region for its meticulous craftsmanship, fair pricing, and deeply personalized customer relationships.

The Second Generation: Expanding Horizons

The true transformation of Shyam Sundar Co. into a contemporary powerhouse occurred when the second generation stepped in. G.C. Saha’s daughter, **Arpita Saha**, and her husband, **Rupak Saha** (who serves as the Chairman), took over the reins.

Rupak Saha envisioned a brand that wasn't just a local retail store, but a culturally significant institution. He spearheaded two major strategic shifts:

1. **The Move to Kolkata:** To scale the business, they expanded beyond Tripura and established their headquarters in Kolkata, opening major showrooms in key hubs like Rashbehari Avenue, Behala, and Barasat.
2. **Merging Heritage with High Fashion:** Rupak and Arpita realized that to stand out in a crowded market, they needed to elevate traditional handcrafted gold jewelry into the realm of wearable art.

Breaking into Global Fashion: The 'Adi-Kriti' Milestone

In 2008, celebrating their golden jubilee, the brand launched **"Adi-Kriti"**—an exclusive line of high-fashion gold jewelry heavily inspired by the vibrant tribal art and culture of India.

The collection became a massive success. Backed by the World Gold Council, "Adi-Kriti" catapulted the regional jeweler onto national runways in Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru. The innovation was so profound that by 2009, Shyam Sundar Co. achieved membership in the prestigious **Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI)**—a rare feat for a traditional heritage jewelry house. Their pieces began sharing center stage with leading fashion designers at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week.

Following this, in 2010, they introduced **"Classic Calcutta"**, celebrating the historic, intricate gold-smithing techniques unique to Bengal, which further solidified their position in the national wholesale and retail landscape.

The Brand Philosophy and Legacy Today

Under Rupak Saha's leadership, the brand has consistently stayed in tune with modern consumer habits, establishing a robust e-store to cater to global buyers while maintaining strict quality standards (using 22K Hallmarked Gold and GSI/IGI certified diamonds).

Saha has also ensured the brand's identity is deeply intertwined with Indian arts, regularly roping in culturally iconic brand ambassadors over the years, such as Soha Ali Khan, Konkona Sensharma, and classical vocalist Kaushiki Chakraborty. Today, alongside the next generation represented by Rishiroop Saha, the family continues to balance corporate growth with active social responsibility initiatives in healthcare and education across the regions they serve.

Did you know the story of Apeksha Lahiri's The Yellow Turtle?

The story of The Yellow Turtle is a tale of a beloved local eatery expanding into a vibrant, multi-service hospitality brand under the vision of its owner, Apeksha Lahiri.

Initially gaining popularity as a fine-dining restaurant and cafe in South Kolkata (Sarat Bose Road/Hindustan Park), The Yellow Turtle established a stellar reputation for serving high-quality Asian, Continental, and Chinese cuisine—and even earned a devoted following for its signature pork dishes, mocktails, and weekend buffets.

The Chapter of Expansion

Recognizing a strong demand for its signature hospitality, Apeksha spearheaded a strategic move to bring the brand to North Kolkata. In 2025, she officially expanded operations to a new, spacious venue located on the 3rd floor of **The Meridian Building** on VIP Road, Baguiati.

With this new footprint, the brand transitioned from a cozy dining spot to a comprehensive event destination by introducing **The Yellow Turtle Banquet**.

> "In keeping with our expansion into first-rate catering services in addition to our well-known restaurant options, The Yellow Turtle now ventures into the realm of events and celebrations... We are excited to welcome guests from North Kolkata and beyond to enjoy our signature hospitality, delicious cuisine, and vibrant new offerings,"
> — **Apeksha Lahiri, Owner**

# # # The Venue & Services Today

Under Apeksha's management, the Baguiati location has successfully evolved into a versatile layout designed to handle everything from casual weekend family dinners to grand celebrations:

* **The Banquet Hall:** A well-planned event space capable of comfortably hosting 150 seated guests and up to 250 in a floating setup. It serves as a hub for weddings, *sangeets*, anniversaries, and corporate meetings.
* **The Culinary Identity:** The venue features a diverse in-house catering team blending local and global flavors, famously hosting a massive **35+ dish weekend buffet**.
* **The Full-Service Experience:** Beyond great food, the property incorporates 24 air-conditioned rooms for overnight guests, dedicated valet parking for up to 50 cars, a bar section, and custom external decor allowances.

Apeksha’s journey with The Yellow Turtle reflects a modern entrepreneurial story—taking a trusted neighborhood restaurant concept and scaling it gracefully into a full-scale hospitality and banquet brand.
