Project: Independence Day
Date: 15th August 2026
Destination: Dighir Pathshala, Sundarban

On 15th August 2026, VSO North Kolkata celebrated Independence Day at Dighir Pathshala, Sundarban.

The day began with a few minutes of silence observed in honour of the late Dr Debajit Sen, remembering his invaluable contributions and the legacy he left behind. This was followed by the flag‑hoisting ceremony, paying homage to the freedom fighters who dedicated their lives to the nation.

The celebration featured several interesting activities for the students — drawing, quiz, dance, and drama competitions — which displayed their creativity and enthusiasm. The winners were congratulated at the prize-giving ceremony, thus making the event more successful and memorable.

Towards the end of the programme, there was a food arrangement for all the students. So, we would like to express our gratitude to each and every member and volunteer of VSO for having made this event effective. By working together, we can keep on serving and improving communities.

VSO North Kolkata conducted the “International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression” on 4th June 2026 at Sarada Prasad Institution for Girls School, reaffirming the vital message that children must never be subjected to violence or aggression.

The event began with an opening address by one of the VSO volunteers, followed by a warm welcome and introduction of the guests. The team expressed gratitude to the Headmistress of the school for her constant support in hosting the programme. A brief, meaningful introduction on child safety, security, and protection awareness initiatives had set the tone for the entire session.

VSO North Kolkata then engaged actively with students ranging from standard 6 to 10, addressing all the relevant questions and encouraging them to seek help whenever they face trauma, discomfort, or challenges related to aggression or violence.

The session was highly successful, marked by active interaction with the students, who shared their ideas, thoughts, and questions related to Victims of Aggression Day. The programme concluded with strong support from the VSO team members, the panel speakers, the school teachers, and the enthusiastic participation of the children.

We are excited to announce that on 22nd February, at Dighir Pathshala in Madhavkatigram, Hingalganj (Sundarbans), we launched two new initiatives, “Shoili and Shilpi Bajra”, followed by skill-based activities, such as jewellery making and sewing training sessions, enabling women to learn practical handicraft skills that can support income generation and self-reliance on 08th March 2026.

"Child abuse is one of those issues that's very difficult to talk about because it's surrounded by guilt and shame and so on, but us avoiding that issue doesn't help those kids in need out there who need support." - Chris Hemsworth

VSO North Kolkata takes the second opportunity to conduct the "International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression" at Sarada Prasad Institution for Girls School to serve as a crucial reminder that children should never be subjected to any violence or aggression. In our society, children are the most vulnerable members, and the impact of aggression on their lives has been devastating.

So, this time VSO North Kolkata addressed all the questions raised by standard 6 and 8. Additionally, standard 7 and 9 had also been advised to seek for help and support in cause of any sort of trauma or any challenges that might be bothering the little children related to this particular topic.

Overall, both sessions have really been very successful which included a lot of interaction with school children, their ideas, thoughts and questions related to "Victims of Aggression Day" and ended with the constant support of VSO team members, school children and the school teachers.
