On 5th June, Change Initiatives, under the banner of the IRRI HER+ West Bengal Livestock Learning Lab, celebrated World Environment Day at Balarampur with this year’s theme — “Beat Plastic Pollution.” The day was full of energy, awareness, and strong community participation.
We started the morning with a small rally in the village to spread awareness about plastic pollution. After that, women poultry farmers from our project area took part in a plastic clean-up drive near the local pond. They also set up a small bag to collect plastic waste, so that people do not throw it into the pond anymore.
Next, we held a tree plantation drive where the women planted saplings around the pond area to make the place greener and healthier.
Later, local children showcased their creativity through beautiful drawings, posters, and models focused on the environment. Their work made the event even more colorful and inspiring.
Finally, all the women took a pledge to fight plastic pollution. They wrote down their promises on paper to show their commitment to protect nature.
Together, we can build a cleaner, greener, and healthier future for all!
