Two Indian Scops Owl chicks fell from their nesting tree and were at immediate risk, as crows had begun attacking them. Observing the situation, environmental enthusiast and school teacher Mr. Biplab Das promptly informed us.

Upon receiving the information, our team reached the site without delay. To ensure safe handling, we sought the assistance of a professional tree climber. During the process, we identified a cavity in a nearby coconut tree, where the remaining owl chicks were found. The fallen chicks were carefully placed back into the same cavity, reuniting them with their siblings in their natural habitat.

Although we had the option to relocate the chicks and hand them over to the concerned authorities for care, we strongly believe that nature provides the best nurturing environment for its young.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Biplab Biswas for his timely intervention and for playing a crucial role in this rescue effort.

Happy World Sparrow Day 🐦

On this special day, we take a moment to reflect on a small yet meaningful step towards bringing back our beloved sparrows across West Bengal.

Two years ago, we began our journey with the “Forever Homes” project—an initiative born out of concern, as rapid urbanization continues to take away the natural nesting spaces of these little winged friends. Inspired by their natural habitats, we designed and installed nest boxes, and so far, around 1000 boxes have been distributed across multiple districts.

Alongside this, we’ve conducted workshops in schools to spread awareness and inspire young minds to care for nature.

What truly fills us with pride is the overwhelming acceptance—most of these boxes are now home to sparrows again. The encouragement from communities and authorities has only strengthened our belief that small efforts can create real change.

Let’s continue to make space for them—because they were always a part of our homes. 💚

BAN Foundation recently had the opportunity to conduct an awareness program at the NHIT campus, where around 250 enthusiastic students participated. Due to the large turnout and overwhelming interest from the students, we had to conduct two separate sessions to accommodate everyone.

The energy and curiosity of the participants were truly inspiring. Their eagerness to learn about snakes and the wildlife around us made the sessions highly interactive and meaningful.

Our Director, Mr. Arindam Chakrabarty, led the sessions and shared valuable insights about snake identification, debunking common myths, and the importance of respecting and conserving the wildlife that shares our surroundings.

We sincerely thank NHIT for arranging and supporting this awareness program and for encouraging students to learn about wildlife conservation.

The Cooch Behar Forest Department, in a collaborative effort with BAN Foundation, conducted patrolling activities in several vulnerable areas as part of ongoing initiatives to prevent wildlife hunting and promote conservation awareness.

During the programme, awareness miking sessions were carried out and informational leaflets were distributed among local communities to sensitize people about wildlife protection and applicable legal provisions.

BAN Foundation assisted the Forest Department in all possible manners to support effective implementation of the initiative. We extend our sincere thanks to our Coordinator, Mrinmay Sarkar, for being present on behalf of BAN Foundation and actively contributing to the programme.

Our Green Warriors celebrated World Pangolin Day today with great enthusiasm and creativity. From the very beginning of our journey, they have been taught about important wildlife and environmental observance days, and it is truly inspiring to see how well they remember and value these occasions.

This time, they took the initiative entirely on their own. Without any guidance or assistance from us, they designed thoughtful posters highlighting pangolin conservation and even created a beautiful costume to represent the species. Their dedication and sense of responsibility towards wildlife conservation reflect how deeply the message has reached them.

They also shared a few heartfelt messages about protecting pangolins and stopping wildlife trafficking. Seeing young minds speak so confidently about conservation gives us hope for a more compassionate and environmentally aware future.

Today was not just a celebration — it was a reminder that awareness, when nurtured from a young age, can truly create future guardians of nature.

We conducted another technical workshop on snake rescue for the frontline team of the Burdwan Division. The session was led by our Director, Mr. Arindam Chakrabarty, and saw the participation of 38 frontline staff members.

During the workshop, we shared ethical and safe snake rescue techniques, strictly following the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

We sincerely thank the DFO, Burdwan, for arranging and facilitating this training programme. We also extend our gratitude to the ADFO, Burdwan, and the Range Officers for being present throughout the programme and for their constant support and cooperation in every possible manner.

A video from the field, along with a few heartfelt reflections shared by our field team members, Mr. Antu Mondal and Amlan Mitra.

During a routine field visit, they discovered ghost nets illegally set in a waterbody. Without a second thought for their own safety, they stepped into the water—driven by the hope that even a single life could be saved.

Sadly, only one bird was found alive. The rest were already dead—no, not dead, but killed by this silent and cruel trap. The surviving bird was rescued, safely released back into its habitat, and the ghost net was completely destroyed.

No offender could be identified at the site.

Yet the incident leaves behind a disturbing question:
In this era that proudly calls itself humane, have some people truly become hu-mane?

Our gratitude to Wildlife Trust Of India for their continued support in our Migratory/waterbirds hunting mitigation efforts.

Day before yesterday, we received information that Asian Open-billed Storks were being killed for bushmeat in a local area. Acting immediately, our team—along with our well-wisher and nature lover Mr. Bappa Saha reached the spot. The team included Mrs. Chandrima Bose, Ms. Sneha Biswas, and Soumitra Roy, with active support from personnel of the local police station.

One Open-billed Stork that had fallen from a tree was rescued and safely returned to its nest with the help of local residents. Awareness was conducted among local villagers, including fishermen and boatmen, regarding wildlife protection laws and bird conservation. Awareness materials were distributed, and one iron awareness signboard fixed on an iron pole was installed at the site.

At another nearby location, we found ghost nets laid in paddy fields, used to trap small birds such as bush larks and weavers. The net was immediately destroyed, and locals were sensitised about the illegality and ecological impact of such practices.

We sincerely thank Mr. Bappa Saha and the local police personnel for their support. We also express our gratitude to WTI for their valuable contribution to our Migratory and Water Bird Hunting Mitigation Project.

This Crested Serpent Eagle was rescued by our team from a border-side area after we received information from personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF). Upon reaching the location, we found the bird of prey to be extremely malnourished and suffering from the loss of its main flying wing.

Immediate first aid was provided, and the eagle was kept under care and observation with the supervision of the Forest Department, where it gradually regained sufficient strength. After stabilization and improvement in its overall health condition, the bird was formally handed over to the Forest Department’s custody for its best possible rehabilitation and long-term care.
