A day full of stories, smiles, and imagination 💫📖

On 14th March 2026, Shumpun Foundation organized a beautiful storytelling session for our children, creating a space filled with joy, learning, and connection.

The story presented was “Satbhai Champa” from the timeless collection Thakurmar Jhuli, originally written by Dakshinaranjan Mitra Majumder.

It was thoughtfully adapted and presented by Sharmistha Bhattacharya and her team, making it simple, engaging, and meaningful for the children.

Through expressions, voice, and storytelling, the session helped children connect with emotions, imagination, and learning in a joyful way ❤️🌸

Emotional Regulation Is Education 🧠💛

Education is not only about what children learn, but how they learn to manage themselves while learning. Emotional regulation—the ability to handle frustration, wait, cope with mistakes, and calm the body—plays a vital role in attention, memory, and problem-solving. When children are supported to regulate their emotions, classrooms become safer and learning becomes possible. Emotional regulation is not a “soft skill”; it is a foundation skill for education and life.

Emotional Literacy Enhances Attention & Memory – Travelling Without Parents ✨

On 14th February 2026, our children explored the Aircraft Museum with courage, curiosity, and confidence 🌍✈️
Travelling without parents is not just a trip — it’s a journey of emotional growth, independence, focus, and learning.

When children learn to manage emotions, they learn to: 💛 Focus better
💛 Remember more
💛 Feel safe in new spaces
💛 Build confidence
💛 Learn through real-life experiences

From excitement to curiosity, from nervousness to joy — every emotion became a learning moment ❤️
Because emotional literacy builds strong minds, strong hearts, and strong futures.

Emotional Regulation and Language Development

Self-regulation directly supports language development. When children feel calm, they can organize thoughts, choose words carefully, and express ideas clearly. Regulation improves attention and working memory—both essential for building vocabulary and forming sentences. It also expands ideational range, meaning the child can think of more ideas, describe situations better, and engage in richer conversations.

Happy Lane 2026 | A Glimpse

Happy Lane was joyfully celebrated on Sunday, 18th January 2026. As always, parents came together to plan and create the decorations, adding warmth and a strong sense of community to the event.

Children performed an awareness drama on neurodiversity, taught by Madhurima and Suroj, with the script written by Madhurima. The performance was well received and warmly appreciated by the audience. Many visitors shared that this year’s carnival felt more organized, with a better footfall than previous years.

The chief guest, Anirban Bhattacharya, appreciated Shumpun’s long-term commitment to therapeutic work, especially programmes that require patience and resilience rather than instant results. He also expressed happiness that Madhurima could use her formal training in drama for marginalized children and children with special needs.

Sreya Pande, daughter of late MLA Sadhan Pandey, visited the programme and showed interest in knowing more about Shumpun’s work. The local police station supported the event by providing a small task force, helping everything run smoothly.

Children from the neighbourhood and Shumpun performed dances, while members of Thanal and their children also participated with dance recitals. Two graduated former Shumpun students played active roles, one anchoring the programme and the other supporting children on stage.

The carnival featured a lively game zone, an art workshop using natural colours, fourteen food and goods stalls, and a musical skit by Shumpun parents.

Overall, Happy Lane 2026 was a colourful, inclusive, and successful celebration filled with joy and togetherness.

Education Beyond Books 📚💛

January reminds us that education is more than marks, grades, and exams. True education also teaches children how to understand their emotions, express themselves, listen to others, and build healthy relationships. Emotional literacy—knowing how to name feelings, manage frustration, and show empathy—is a life skill that supports learning in school and success in professional life. When children feel understood, they learn better.
