Ms. Sweta Das, Research Scholar of the Department of Civil Engineering, working under the supervision of Dr. S. K. Rahman, successfully presented a technical paper at the Indian Geotechnical Conference (IGC) 2025.

The conference was held at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jalandhar, on 19th December 2025.

🌊 One-Week HEC-RAS Workshop Successfully Conducted at CIT Kokrajhar! 🌊

We are delighted to share that the Department of Civil Engineering, Central Institute of Technology Kokrajhar Under MHRD Goverment of India successfully organized a one-week workshop on “Integrated Hydrodynamic and Sediment Transport Analysis with HEC-RAS” from 01–05 December 2025. This workshop was conducted in collaboration with the National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), North Eastern Regional Centre, Guwahati.

👩‍🎓👨‍🎓 Participants
M.Tech students and PhD scholars took part in this training and gained valuable hands-on experience with advanced hydrologic and hydraulic modelling tools. The entire week was full of learning, interaction, and practical exposure.

Their teaching, guidance, and constant support made the workshop highly impactful. Students truly appreciated their expertise and helpful nature.

✔ Introduction to advanced hydrodynamic modelling concepts
✔ Hands-on training in HEC-RAS for 1D & 2D simulations
✔ Model setup, boundary conditions, calibration, and result interpretation

The participants walked away with enriched knowledge and improved modelling skills.

The Department of Civil Engineering, Central Institute of Technology Kokrajhar is pleased to share that Dr. Biswarup Saikia, Associate Professor, and Dr. Soumen Maji, Assistant Professor, were invited as Resource Persons for the Technical Lecture Series organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, Technical Training Centre (ATTC), Bardang on “Recent Advances in Civil Engineering”, held from 12th–14th November 2025.

Dr. Biswarup Saikia delivered expert lectures on Recent Advancements in Concrete Technology and Structural Analysis, offering students valuable insights into modern engineering applications and evolving industry trends.

Dr. Soumen Maji contributed to the lecture series by discussing various recent developments in civil engineering, along with providing guidance on different career opportunities beyond the academic curriculum. His interactive sessions were highly appreciated, with students showing great enthusiasm and curiosity.

Both faculty members also interacted with ATTC’s departmental faculty and staff, exploring avenues for future research collaborations to strengthen academic and technical cooperation between the two institutions.

During their visit, they also participated in the Convention of the Institution of Engineers (India), Sikkim Chapter, further enriching their academic engagement.

CIT Kokrajhar sincerely thanks Prof. Dr. Sonam Palden Barfungpa, Principal, ATTC, for the invitation and for fostering such collaborative academic initiatives. We hope the sessions were beneficial for all students and stakeholders at ATTC Bardang, and we look forward to more such meaningful collaborations in the future.

On 15th September 2025, the Department of Civil Engineering organized a vibrant program to mark this special occasion. The celebration featured poster presentations, group discussions, and other student-led activities, making the event both engaging and impactful.

The program was graced by Dr. Yachang Omo, Head of the Department, along with faculty members. The active participation and enthusiasm of our students truly made the day a grand success.

The final year project presentation for M.Tech in Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering was held on 14th May 2025 at the BKB Seminar Hall, Central Institute of Technology Kokrajhar Under MHRD Goverment of India. A total of 12 postgraduate scholars successfully defended their thesis work. All the scholars demonstrated commendable effort and proficiency in their respective project work. We were honored to have Mr. Siddhartha Shankar Adhikari, Executive Director (Technical) of North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO), as the external examiner for the session.

Congratulations to Mr. Abhishek Kumar (CITK/2019/Gau-C-15/215), an alumnus of the Department of Civil Engineering, Central Institute of Technology Kokrajhar Under MHRD Goverment of India, for securing a position as Junior Technical Officer ( ) in the Irrigation and CAD (ICAD) Department of the Government of Telangana. He has also been selected as a Junior Engineer in the Border Roads Organization ( ) through the SSC examination.

During his time at CIT Kokrajhar, Mr. Kumar was known for his disciplined approach, meticulous work ethic, and exemplary behavior. His unwavering dedication to serving the nation is truly commendable.

The Department of Civil Engineering is immensely proud to announce a historic milestone — successfully completing its first Ph.D. program. Ms. Rumi Goswami (Roll No. 202101011001) successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis on 21st April 2025, marking a significant achievement not only in her academic journey but also in the legacy of the Department.

Ms. Goswami enrolled in the Ph.D. program initiated in 2021 and conducted her research under the guidance of Dr. Amit Kumar Dey, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, CIT Kokrajhar. Her thesis was evaluated by Prof. Bhim Charan Meikap, Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Kharagpur, who served as the external examiner.

The department wholeheartedly congratulates Dr. Rumi Goswami on her commendable achievement and wishes her grand success in all her future endeavors. This moment stands as a proud testament to the department’s dedication to academic excellence and research.

The Department of Civil Engineering, Central Institute of Technology Kokrajhar Under MHRD Goverment of India has successfully conducted a one-week workshop on "Precision and Design: Hands-On AutoCAD Training" from 3rd to 8th March 2025.
The program was inaugurated by Prof. Dr Sandeep Srivastava, Dean (Research & Development), alongside Dr. Yachang Omo, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, and other esteemed faculty members. The workshop was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Soumen Maji, Assistant Professor of the Department. Prof. Biswarup Saikia and Dr. Yachang Omo were the esteemed resource persons of this event.
A huge shout-out to all technical staff and student coordinators for their dedicated efforts in making this event a grand success! 🙌

Key Objectives of the Workshop:
✅ Enhance technical skills in computer-aided design (CAD) using AutoCAD.
✅ Provide hands-on training and real-world applications in drafting and precision design.
✅ Equip participants with industry-relevant skills, boosting their employability and technical expertise.
