Delighted to share that we have been awarded the second position at the 13th edition of the FICCI Awards under the category ‘Water Initiatives by NGOs.’

Access to safe and reliable water is a fundamental pillar of sustainable development, public health, and poverty reduction and this recognition celebrates our ongoing work in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector. At NEIDA, we have been implementing initiatives that focus on improving access to safe drinking water, rejuvenating springs, strengthening watershed management systems, and promoting sustainable water governance.
Through our programs across Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Nagaland, we work closely with local communities to strengthen water and food security while encouraging water conservation practices, climate-resilient water management, and improved water-use efficiency.
This national recognition reinforces the growing importance of community-driven water solutions in the Northeast and strengthens our commitment to ensuring equitable access to safe water and sustainable resource management for the communities.

Under the 'Tribal Resilience Initiative for Building Environmentally Sustainable Livelihoods (TRIBES)' project, supported by NABARD, we are working closely with farmers on scientific orchard management.

A recent field visit to Longmatra Block, Kiphire district, Nagaland, showed healthy growth of pineapple and banana plants in Wadi plots developed on contour bench terraces. Farmers observed better plant establishment and uniform spacing, and are optimistic about improved yields compared to traditional planting methods.

Simple, community-led innovations are helping king chili farmers protect their crops leading to healthier plants and more reliable harvests. With shade-net structures built using local materials, even remote villages are now seeing improved production and steadier incomes. This collective effort is strengthening livelihoods and giving farming families a more secure and hopeful future.

Understanding that water is the foundation of a thriving community, the Mudobu spring in Lozaphuhu village was rejuvenated in 2023 under our Springshed Management Programme. It was also further understood that the village required a proper system to supply water in their homes. In view of this, a solar-powered submersible pump has been installed which offers an environmentally sustainable and economically efficient alternative.

This automatic solar pump comprises of 30 solar panels of 545 watts each generating sufficient energy to operate a 5 HP pump capable of lifting up to 30,000 litres of water per hour to a storage reservoir located about 300 meters uphill from the spring site.

The solar water pump project is one of the activities under the ‘Integrated Village Development Program (IVDP)’ supported under Titan Company Limited’s CSR initiative and implemented by NEIDA.

Progressive farmers like Hotoi from Pungro Village are witnessing firsthand how changing weather patterns and the loss of biodiversity are affecting pest populations and crop health.
As we work to promote climate-smart agricultural practices, we are documenting their experiences to co-create solutions that help farmers protect both their crops and livelihoods.

When we first began our springshed project in Vanhe village two years ago, the initial spring discharge was 6.25 liters per minute. Through the commitment and guidance of local para-hydrogeologists, especially C. Rothuama, and the collaborative spirit of the community, we've achieved a phenomenal increase of 33.33 liters per minute. This boost represents a powerful victory for local stewardship and provides the community with a new lease on water security.
