Our second project on wider spectrum designed to address two areas of deficit that would help meet the goals set forth by the United Nations in their 2011 study 'The State of World's Midwifery
2011: Delivering Health, Saving Lives'
Goal One is to increase: “ women's access to quality midwifery” and “realize the right of every woman to the best possible health care during pregnancy and childbirth”
Goal two is to provide an Institution specifically for the study of Midwifery. Background information on our stated goals
The 2011 UN study identified one of the specific challenges in India as:
“The majority of service providers ... auxiliary nurse- midwives ...
lack the full set of essential midwifery competencies and the
authority to perform life-saving interventions. “
Birth for Change has a plan to address these issues by creating an “International School for Midwives “ to teach the most up to date ,
evidence based Academic, Techniques and Skills. Along with this we plan a full service, Maternity Clinic offering an operating theater, prenatal, antepartum and post-parturition care using the Midwifery Model of Care. Additionally childbirth education, child health and maternal wellness classes will be an integral part of the facility. Kerela has always been a leader in Health Care for India, by creating a facility for the advanced education of Obstetric Nurses we can help provide skilled Midwifes throughout India. and we expect midwives from other area of the world to be interested in short term clinical rotations at our
facility because there is a world wide shortage of quality learning Institutions for the Midwifery model of care. Birth for Change is currently in the planning stages of this facility. Please feel free to
contact us for further details about this or our other projects.
