World Elephant Day ❤️

Why would a frog celebrate World Elephant Day?

In 2019, a group of scientists from the Wildlife Conservation Society found frog tadpoles in pools left behind by the footprints of Asian Elephants, in Myanmar’s Htamanthi Wildlife Sanctuary! Similar findings about African Elephant tracks have been published from Uganda in 2017.

Human-Elephant Conflicts (HEC) are escalating with tragic consequences. In India, these conflicts have led to a sharp increase in human fatalities, with 461 deaths in 2021, 534 in 2022, and 605 as of December 7th, 2023. Additionally, more than a million hectares of crops have been destroyed, affecting over 500,000 families. These conflicts, driven by habitat loss, climate change, and resource scarcity, pose a serious threat to both human and elephant populations.

At Project Edible Forest, we aim to mitigate these conflicts through a nature-based solution that utilizes honey bees as natural deterrents. Our bees prevent elephants from entering human settlement areas without causing them harm. This initiative, in collaboration with local communities, not only promotes economic sustainability but also empowers marginalized groups. Our goal is to foster a world where coexistence with harmony and peace is achievable.
