The Small Animal Veterinary Association, Kerala (SAVAK) is pleased to organise an exclusive Academia–Practitioner Conclave, in partnership with Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU), bringing together academic leaders and veterinary practitioners to discuss the evolving needs of small animal clinical practice.

A focused discussion on the practical competencies, clinical exposure and industry expectations required for veterinary graduates and postgraduates to confidently enter modern clinical practice.

Exploring structured certificate/diploma programmes for veterinary nurses, laboratory technicians, pharmacists, radiographers, groomers and other allied professionals to strengthen the workforce supporting veterinary hospitals in both the private and government sectors.

The Small Animal Veterinary Association Kerala (SAVAK) successfully conducted its Continuing Professional Development Programme (CPD) on internal Medicine on 14 June 2026 at Holiday Inn, Kochi. The programme was attended by 120 veterinary delegates from various parts of Kerala, reflecting the growing interest in evidence-based small animal practice and continuing veterinary education.

The scientific sessions were delivered by Prof. Dr. K. Jeyaraja, MVSc., PhD, an eminent academician and clinician, on the theme “Internal Medicine for a Small Animal Practitioner.” The programme covered a wide range of clinically relevant topics, including fluid therapy and electrolyte imbalance in small animals, fluid therapy in systemic disorders, arterial blood gas analysis and its interpretation, cardiac emergencies in dogs, and updates on the management of idiopathic epilepsy in dogs.

The sessions were highly interactive and well received by the participants. Delegates appreciated the practical approach adopted by the speaker, which helped bridge the gap between theory and day-to-day clinical practice. The sponsor session provided an opportunity for participants to learn about the latest products, diagnostic solutions, and technological advancements available for veterinary practitioners.

In addition to the scientific programme, the event also facilitated networking and professional interaction among veterinarians, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing within the profession.

Continuing Professional Development Programme “CKD in Small Animals & its Management – An Update 2026”

The Small Animal Veterinary Association of Kerala (SAVAK) successfully conducted a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme titled “CKD in Small Animals & its Management – An Update 2026” on 25th January 2026 (Sunday) at Hotel Radisson Blu, Kochi.

The programme was attended by around 110 participants, comprising practicing smll animal veterinarians from across Kerala and neighboring regions. The academic sessions were led by Prof. Dr. M. Chandrasekar, PhD, PG-Dip (Ortho), Professor & Head, Emergency & Critical Care Unit, Resident Veterinary Services Section, Madras Veterinary College, Chennai.

The scientific sessions covered recent updates in the diagnosis and management of chronic kidney disease in dogs and cats, consensus guidelines on lower urinary tract diseases in cats, dialysis techniques, use of ultrasonography in renal and urinary bladder diseases, and the application of Doppler blood pressure monitoring, arterial blood gas analysis, and parenteral nutrition in renal patients.

A major highlight of the programme was the live demonstration sessions, where practical aspects of doppler bp monitoring, ophthalmic examination, ABG- collection and analysis and clinical monitoring were demonstrated in real time. These sessions enabled participants to closely observe procedures and clarify practical doubts, making the learning experience highly interactive and clinically relevant.

The programme maintained excellent academic flow with well-structured sessions, interactive discussions, and active participation from delegates throughout the day. The programme honoured Dr. Suryanarayanan D R, Dr. Rasim V P, Dr. Anand B S and Dr. Soorej C P , who have excelled in various academic and professional programmes.

Overall, the CPD Programme was a highly enriching and valuable learning experience, enhancing participants’ knowledge and practical skills in the management of renal and urinary diseases in small animals.
