*DC Kishtwar chairs meeting of District Level Advisory Committee (DLAC) on Food Safety and Healthy Diets*

A meeting of the District Level Advisory Committee (DLAC) on Food Safety and Healthy Diets was today held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kishtwar, Sh. Pankaj Kumar Sharma (JKAS), at the VC Room, DC Office Complex Kishtwar here.
The meeting reviewed the measures in place to ensure the availability of quality food to the public and the effective implementation and monitoring of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
At the outset, the DC took a comprehensive review of the functioning and achievements of the Food Safety Department, including the activities carried out under the Eat Right India Campaign.
A detailed discussion was held on issues related to food safety standards, hygiene practices, and compliance by Food Business Operators (FBOs) in the district.
The DC was apprised of the current status of food safety measures in Kishtwar and the proactive steps undertaken by the department to ensure the supply of safe and healthy food to the public.
Emphasizing the importance of maintaining high standards of food safety, he directed officers to ensure the availability of quality and hygienic food items in the market.
He instructed inspection squads to intensify monitoring to curb the sale of unhealthy, misbranded, and expired food products, particularly those targeted at children.
The DC further directed the Food Safety Department to ensure the installation of glass frames in all mutton and chicken shops by FBOs to enhance hygiene conditions.
He also ordered a special drive to check milk and milk products and instructed the registration of all food business establishments in the district.
Additionally, he emphasized conducting intensive awareness programmes for all FBOs, including ICDS and MDM workers, regarding fortified food and registration under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
The DC stressed strict enforcement of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and directed officers to take legal action against FBOs found violating the Act.
DC assured full support from the District Administration to ensure the availability of quality and hygienic food items to the people of Kishtwar.
The meeting was attended by committee members including ADC Kishtwar Pawan Kotwal (JKAS); CMO Kishtwar, CAO Kishtwar, CEO Kishtwar; Designated Officer Food Safety Kishtwar Farooq Ahmad Sheikh; Food Safety Officer Kishtwar Sajad Hussain; Food Safety Expert Rajni Devi and Retired Food Safety Officer, Prethpal Singh, representatives from consumer organizations, Food Business Associations, and enforcement departments.
