Established in 2002 and registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act in 2004, GYWS aims to improve the living standards of the people of Gop

ali (a village located 5 km from the IIT campus), and tackling social, economic and educational problems faced by the rural communities through its projects and initiatives. One of GYWS's prime projects is Jagriti Vidya Mandir, an English-medium school in Gopali, which aims to provide education to children from underprivileged backgrounds. Established in 2008, the school currently has students studying from Nursery to Class V. Started initially in a leased building, the school has since moved to its own permanent campus, which is planned to be developed into a hostel-cum-school campus with classes up to XII. To financially support our students’ education, GYWS started the 'Educate A Child' scheme under which interested donors can adopt and fund a child’s education, including costs for books, stationery, uniform, transport etc. A number of alumni, students and professors of IIT Kharagpur are a part of this initiative. GYWS also has a number of other initiatives in the fields of prevention of child labour, women empowerment, grievance redressal for government activities, health awareness etc. The Society and its activities are mainly supported by donations from alumni, professors and students of IIT Kharagpur, as well as local industries. All donations to GYWS are exempted from taxes under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act and Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).

Album 1/3 | Aashayein 2026, Honouring Our Esteemed Guests
The celebration of Aashayein 2026 began with a sense of pride and gratitude as the event was graced by an esteemed gathering of dignitaries and distinguished guests. We were honoured to welcome Shri Bijin Krishna, District Magistrate of Paschim Medinipur, along with our long-time philanthropic supporter Mr. Niladri Nath Bagchi, who attended with his wife, as our Chief Guests.
The occasion was further enriched by the presence of respected faculty members from IIT Kharagpur who joined us as Guests of Honour: Prof. Debashish Chakravarty (Mining Department), Prof. Atul Jain (Mechanical Department), Prof. Seema Singh (HSS Department), and Prof. Shailendra Kumar Varshney (EECE Department).
We were also delighted to have Mr. Ajoy Rai, Principal of Jagriti Vidya Mandir, whose continued encouragement plays an important role in motivating and guiding our students.

With this year’s theme “Samay: Ek Safar”, our students are ready to take you on a journey through time with performances filled with creativity, energy, and heartfelt stories.

Jagriti Vidya Mandir, an initiative of the Gopali Youth Welfare Society (GYWS) run by the students of IIT Kharagpur, continues to nurture young minds and celebrate their growth through events like Aashayein.

The bells have rung and the chalk dust has settled, but the echoes of laughter at the GYWS Stall are still fresh. From the high-energy games to the heartfelt conversations, you guys turned our 'Masti ki Pathshala' into a celebration of togetherness.

SF '26 might be over, but the spirit of GYWS is growing, and grinding together. A huge shoutout to everyone who dropped by, shared a smile, and made our stall a massive success!

Lead us from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge.

The soul of our institution radiated with a divine glow as we gathered for our Saraswati Puja celebrations. Beneath a canopy of sacred chants and the sweet fragrance of incense, we stood together to honor the Goddess of Wisdom, the eternal source of every word we speak and every truth we seek.

At Jagriti Vidya Mandir, we don’t just teach, we ignite the flame of curiosity. In seeking Her blessings, we recommitted ourselves to a journey defined by reverence, growth, and the pursuit of excellence. Though the day has passed, the melody of Her Veena continues to resonate in our hearts, guiding us toward a future filled with brilliance and purpose.
