We have been registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1961 on 27th October, 1972. The Scenario before the formation of IIT Employees’ Union was that the employees from all categories were grouped for discussions on the issues related to IIT Employees. They were not that much effective because of their numerical strength and absence of a recognized platform for raising their voi
ces and demands. Sri B Mukherjee has taken the lead role in accumulating all the isolated groups and after a series of meetings and discussions for three to four years amongst themselves, a consensus was arrived for formation of an Employees Forum. Finally IIT Employees’ Union was formed and registered in 1972. Subsequently, it was given due recognition in 1973 by a mutually signed MEMORANDUM OF ASSOCIATION between the representatives of Union and Authorities. The Present Scenario is that the IIT Employees’ Union is strictly a non-political and non-profit making body. It is located beneath TOAT and situated near IIT Main Gate. The tenure of the Executive Committee is for two years only and thereafter the general elections by the members of the Union are held for electing a new body. Any non-academic regular employee in Group B, C, & D category are eligible for membership of the Union. The present structure of the Executive Committee is
(i) 6 (Six) Secretariat Members
(ii) 31 (Thirty One) Departmental Representatives. The First Massive IIT Employees Struggle, under the banner of IIT Employees’ Union, was launched on 26th July, 1972 with our 10-Point Charter of Demand which lasted till 11th January, 1973. Finally after a series of meetings an amicable settlement was arrived at and the demands were successfully agreed upon by the Authorities.
