Join us for the inauguration of LAST DROP, an art exhibition on the local histories and ecologies of Adambakkam & Nanganallur, featuring artworks and films created by the students of Chirpi.

The exhibition will be inaugurated by Durgadevi Natrajan (167th Ward Councillor, Chennai Corporation), Vetriselvan (Poovulagin Nanbargal), and visual artist Swathi.

The Community Museum project, initiated by Aram Thinai in collaboration with Chirpi (A unit of Chisel Montessori School), is a place-based learning programme that enabled students to rediscover the interconnected wetlands and local ecologies surrounding Nanganallur and Adambakkam. Through classroom sessions, field visits, community interactions, and artistic explorations, students engaged with the ecological histories, biodiversity, and social narratives embedded within the Pallikaranai watershed. They documented oral histories, observed landscapes, and reflected on processes of urbanisation, ecological loss, and community resilience. These learnings were transformed into artworks, maps, films, and narratives, culminating in a community museum that archives local memories and ecological knowledge.

Localised Climate Resilience Exhibition – Environment Action Month

📍DakshinaChitra Museum, Muthukadu, Chennai

Localisation Climate Resilience Exhibition is a multifaceted exhibition showcasing a variety of works revolving around the themes of local climate impacts, wetlands, ecology and livelihoods. We define Localised Climate Resilience as a pathway for climate action which is based on local landscape and community needs and rooted to their socio-cultural wisdom i.e. local knowledge, local livelihoods and local economy. In the current centralised socio-political scenario, local governance and local action are vital for resistance against any act of jeopardising the shift towards Localised Climate Resilience.

The exhibition will showcase:
- “Namma Chennnai Reimagining our neighbourhoods” by students of Sunnyside Learning school – Design interventions to address the local impact of climate change from an intersectional lens developed based on field exposure, stakeholder engagement and sectoral mentorship as part of Aram Thinai’s Localised Climate Resilience Education module
- “Local Ecologies and Local histories - Adambakkam” art works by Aram Thinai – Art works on the interconnections between water, flooding, livelihoods, displacement, and environmental change in Chennai’s Adambakkam-Nanganallur area drawing from oral histories shared by community elders, early settlers, and local experts, along with data generated through secondary research
- “Ecology and Communities” art works curated by Natarajan Gangadharan is a collection of art works related to human relationship with local wetlands and ecology covering various landscapes
