🌾 VKSA at Valiyaparamba | 03.06.2025

As part of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyaan (VKSA), a dynamic Farmer–Scientist Interface was held at Valiyaparamba Grama Panchayat, led by KVK Kasaragod. The session saw active participation from farmers, and was inaugurated by Shri V.V. Sajeevan, Panchayat President.

🛑 Key Challenges Raised by Farmers:

i) Saltwater intrusion damaging coastal farmlands

ii) Wild animal attacks, particularly porcupines damaging crops

iii) Lack of timely access to quality planting materials

💡 Farmer Suggestions & Technical Responses:

i) Promote mussel farming and brackish water cage aquaculture

ii) Introduce less-preferred fruit trees like Amla and Tamarind in multistoried coconut gardens to reduce porcupine damage.
Apply natural repellents such as cow dung ash and neem oil spray to protect crops

iii) Ensure timely and coordinated supply of certified seeds and planting materials through KVK, District Agriculture Office, KAU research stations, and ICAR-CPCRI

Experts from ICAR-CTCRI, ICAR-CMFRI, KAU, and KVK Kasaragod addressed farmer queries with practical solutions.
