On Engineers’ Day, we bring you reflections from Mr. Rahul Garg (BT/EE/2001), an alumnus of IIT Kanpur and Founder of Moglix, on his journey as an engineer and entrepreneur.

From his years at IIT Kanpur to building Moglix, Mr. Garg has carried the spirit of engineering into entrepreneurship, working to transform the way businesses access industrial products and services.

We are pleased to partner with the Indian Polyurethane Association (IPUA) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for an Academia–Industry Research Project focused on the recycling of polyurethane waste through hydrogenolysis.

The project aims to explore an efficient route for recycling all types of polyurethane waste, addressing an important challenge for the industry’s sustainable future. Prof. Basker Sundaraju and Prof. Ramkrishna Sarkar from the Department of Chemistry, IIT Kanpur, will lead the project.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Amey Karkare, Dean of Resources and Alumni, IIT Kanpur, and Mr. Harneet Kochar, Chairman, IPUA. At the time of signing the MoU, Mr. Lokesh Jain, Treasurer, and Mr. Sunil Minocha, Secretary General, were also present on behalf of IPUA.

By bringing together IPUA’s industry perspective and IIT Kanpur’s research expertise, the collaboration seeks to develop practical and efficient approaches to polyurethane waste recycling.

We look forward to the outcomes of this collaboration and its potential to contribute to more sustainable solutions for the polyurethane industry.

Heartiest congratulations to our esteemed alumnus Prof. Yogesh Singh Chauhan (MT/EE/2003) on being elected as a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy - INSA effective January 2027.

Prof. Chauhan is currently a Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Kanpur. He has developed industry-standard compact models for advanced silicon transistors, including FinFET, FDSOI and DDSOI. His contributions to GaAs and GaN High Electron Mobility Transistor modelling have enabled high-frequency RF applications. His models are integrated into commercial SPICE simulators used by semiconductor companies for circuit design.

Congratulations, Prof. Chauhan, on this prestigious recognition. We wish you continued success in your research and academic journey.

The Economic Times Startup Awards 2026!

We are pleased to share that our esteemed alumni Mr. Vishrant Dave (BT/MSE/2024), Mr. Prateesh Awasthi (BT-MT (Dual)/ME/2024), and Mr. Ayush Ranjan (BT-MT (Dual)/ME/2024) have won the Best on Campus Award at The Economic Times Startup Awards 2026 for their startup, Armatrix.

Founded at IIT Kanpur in 2024, Armatrix is building snake-like robotic arms that can navigate confined industrial spaces. The startup aims to reduce the need for workers to enter confined and hazardous spaces for inspection and maintenance.

The founders began working on flexible robotic arms in their third year of engineering. What started as a research project has now evolved into a startup piloting its inspection robots in real shipyards. The current robots use cameras and depth sensors for inspections, while future versions are expected to take on welding, coating and maintenance.

Armatrix is initially targeting shipbuilding, with plans to expand into aviation, oil and gas, and nuclear industries.

Congratulations, Mr. Vishrant, Mr. Prateesh and Mr. Ayush, on this recognition! We are proud to see our alumni take their innovation from IIT Kanpur to real-world industrial applications.

Some of the most important lessons we learn in life come from our teachers.

They teach us much more than what is written in a book. Their guidance stays with us long after we leave the classroom.

On Teachers’ Day, we celebrated this spirit at IIT Kanpur with a special gathering of our alumni who are now faculty members at the Institute and it was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on their journey - from once sitting in these classrooms as students to now teaching, guiding, and mentoring the next generation at their alma mater.

We were honoured to have Prof. Pankaj Jalote, Emeritus Professor, Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi, Distinguished Alumnus of IIT Kanpur, and a valued donor to the Institute, as the Guest of Honour for the occasion.

To all our teachers, thank you for inspiring us, guiding us, and helping shape the people we become.

We are pleased to share that our esteemed alumnus Mr. Abhishek Agrawal (BT/ME/2006), has joined OZiva as Chief Growth Officer. OZiva is a health and wellness brand focused on nutrition and wellness products.

With around two decades of experience across FMCG, D2C, and omnichannel commerce, Mr. Agrawal has worked on building and scaling consumer businesses across brands, categories, and channels. His experience spans business leadership, P&L management, consumer growth, category building, and digital transformation.

Before joining OZiva, Abhishek served as Chief Business Officer, Digital at Plum Goodness. Prior to that, he spent over 15 years with ITC Limited, where he held roles across e-commerce, category development, operations, and retail strategy.

In his new role at OZiva, Mr. Agrawal will focus on strengthening the brand’s consumer proposition, expanding its omnichannel presence, and building a sustainable and profitable growth engine.
