Under the Groww Scholar Program, 70 students at IIT Kanpur are being supported in pursuing their academic aspirations with greater confidence and moving closer to their full potential.

Through IITKonverge, we brought together the Groww Foundation and student scholarship recipients for a meaningful interaction that offered a closer look at the impact of this initiative.

We sincerely thank the Foundation for its valuable contribution to student support and for strengthening access to education at IIT Kanpur. We also wish all the very best to the students on their journey ahead.

It is time to recognize those who carry this legacy forward.

Across disciplines and geographies, our alumni continue to lead, innovate, and create meaningful impact. This is an opportunity to celebrate those journeys across four award categories:

- Distinguished Alumnus Award - the highest award given by IITK to its alumni in recognition of their outstanding achievements

- Distinguished Services Award - recognizes the exemplary service and significant contributions of our alumni to IITK to further the institute's stature & standing.

- Young Alumnus Award - acknowledges alumni who are less than 40 years of age and have contributed significantly, achieved exemplary recognition, and distinguished themselves during the early stages of their chose fields of career

- Satyendra K Dubey Memorial Award (SKDA) - to honor its alumnus Mr Satyendra K. Dubey (BT/CE/1994), who sacrificed his life while upholding the integrity and dignity of his profession. Please note that SDA is given to an alumnus of any IIT

We are proud to share that Mr. Abhishek Singh (BT/ME/1992) has been appointed as Director General of the National Testing Agency.

A 1995-batch IAS officer of the Nagaland cadre, he currently serves as CEO of the IndiaAI Mission and Director General of the National Informatics Centre, where he has been leading key digital infrastructure and e-governance initiatives, including the
government’s flagship AI mission.

With nearly three decades of experience, he has played a pivotal role in advancing Digital India, contributing to platforms such as DigiLocker, CoWIN, and DIKSHA, and leading initiatives through MyGov and the National e-Governance Division.

With extensive experience across administration, policy formulation, and technology-led governance, he has built a distinguished career driving large-scale digital and governance transformation initiatives.

We congratulate him on this significant achievement and wish him continued success in his new role.

We are proud to share that our esteemed alumnus, Mr. Chanchal Kumar (BT/MT/CSE/1990/1993) has been appointed as the Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

A 1992-batch IAS officer of the Bihar cadre, Mr. Kumar brings extensive administrative experience across state and central governments. He played a key role in Bihar’s governance, working closely with former Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar, including serving as Principal Secretary where he was deeply involved in policy and decision-making.

He has handled important portfolios such as General Administration and Public Grievances, contributing to governance reforms and service delivery. At the Centre, he has served as Managing Director of the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited and held roles across key ministries. Most recently, he was Secretary in the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, overseeing major infrastructure and connectivity initiatives.

We congratulate him on this significant achievement and wish him continued success in his new role.

𝗔𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗻𝘂𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝘁 𝗜𝗜𝗧 𝗞𝗮𝗻𝗽𝘂𝗿

We are delighted to share that our distinguished alumnus, Mr.Rakesh Bhargava (BT/CHE/1973), has signed an MoU with IIT Kanpur to support research and innovation initiatives.

Mr. Bhargava is a distinguished industry leader and former Chairman of Fresenius Kabi Oncology Ltd., with extensive experience in the pharma and medtech sectors.

Under this initiative, the project titled “Design and Synthesis of Peptide-Based Surfactants” will be supported, focusing on the development of novel peptide-based surfactants with tunable physicochemical properties and potential applications in biomolecule interaction, stabilization, and drug development.

The project will be led by Prof.Ramesh Ramapanicker from the Department of Chemistry, whose research focuses on organic synthesis and peptide chemistry.

This initiative highlights the important role of alumni in advancing impactful research and strengthening the institute’s innovation ecosystem.

We are proud to share that our esteemed alumnus, Dr. Rajat Mittal (BT/AE/1989), Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, has been elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). This prestigious honour is awarded annually to individuals in recognition of their outstanding contributions to their respective fields and to the advancement of science as a whole.

An internationally renowned expert in computational fluid dynamics, Dr. Mittal’s research focuses on biomedical fluid mechanics, biological locomotion, and fluid–structure interaction. His work has wide-ranging applications in areas such as cardiac biomechanics and blood flow dynamics, and has significantly advanced computational biomechanics and multiphysics modeling.

We take immense pride in celebrating this remarkable achievement and wish him continued success in shaping the future of science and engineering.

An opportunity to explore the evolving world of quantitative finance and analytics.

IIT Kanpur is pleased to host an exclusive WorldQuant BRAIN Workshop for students on 28th March 2026. This session offers a unique opportunity to explore how mathematics, statistics, data science, and AI come together to shape modern financial markets.

Participants will gain insights into quantitative modelling, alpha research, and global platforms like the International Quant Championship (IQC) - along with a closer look at career pathways in the field.

This initiative has been made possible through the support of our esteemed alumnus, Mr.Nitish Maini (MSc5/ECO/2012), who currently serves as the Chief Strategy Officer at WorldQuant. We are grateful to Mr. Maini and the WorldQuant team for bringing this opportunity to our students.

IITKonverge | We were pleased to bring together Dr. Devendra (Dev) Shukla, Ph.D. (BT/CE/1967) and Dr. Sathesh Mariappan, Department of Aerospace Engineering, offering a closer, more personal glimpse into the impact of this Fellowship.

The 'Devendra Shukla Young Faculty Research Fellowship' supports early-career faculty in advancing high-quality research and strengthening academic inquiry at IIT Kanpur.

Dr. Mariappan’s work in aerospace engineering reflects the spirit of innovation and research excellence that the Fellowship seeks to encourage.

We are delighted to share that our esteemed alumnus, Mr. Abhinav Rastogi (BT/CE/2007), has taken on a new role as Global Marketing Director at YouTube Shopping.

In this role, he will lead global marketing for Google’s shopping platform, focusing on expanding into new markets and strengthening its position as a key growth channel for creators and brands.

With over a decade at Google, Mr. Rastogi has played a pivotal role in building and scaling initiatives across the Asia Pacific region. Prior to this, he served as Director of Marketing for YouTube Asia Pacific, where he led regional marketing across creator engagement, brand building, and reputation.

We wish him continued success in driving global impact across creators, content, and commerce.

IITKonverge | The Class of 1990 Scholarship donors and student recipients came togeher, enabling a personal glimpse of the impact of their support.

The scholarship supports four students each year from first-year undergraduate programs, enabling meritorious students to pursue their education with greater confidence.

Current recipients include Max Patel, Keshav Mittal, Deepinder Singh Dhillon and Arushi Goel.
