Sankalp Special School was started in January 2007 with an aim to provide all facilities needed by children with special needs under one roof and in a coordinated manner so as to bring maximum growth in the child. The project has been partially funded by Asha Trust since December 2008. However, the centre is completely under the management of the Asha Trust from April 2015. We are committed to cat
er to the needs of the challenged children in a loving and encouraging atmosphere and we aim at the overall growth of the child. The children are given adequate opportunities to explore their surroundings and they are exposed to a variety of activities like games, music, dance, craft work, painting etc for their maximum stimulation. Our main emphasis is on developing child’s interest in the activities and on developing a sense of responsibility in the child. The children are encouraged to make choices for themselves which helps to develop a decision making capacity in the child. The pre-educational and educational program for each child is individualized according to the individual problem and learning capacity of the child. We use special education, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and behavior modification for each child as per the need to bring about maximum development. For the parents, we provide parental counseling, meditations and regular parent’s orientation lectures to help them handle the child and his/her problems in a better way. We also provide alternative healing therapies for the children if asked for. To enhance and maintain the skills of our teachers, we conduct regular lectures and discussions for the teaching staff. The centre runs as a non-profit organization. The expenses incurred are met with through a monthly voluntary fees payment by the parents and through donations received from various persons or organizations.
