We are thrilled to announce the remarkable appointment of Mr. Sanjay Malhotra, a distinguished alumnus of IIT Kanpur (BT CSE 1989), as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. A 1990-batch officer of the Indian Administrative Service, Mr. Malhotra brings with him more than thirty years of expertise in finance, taxation, and public policy.

His illustrious career, defined by substantial contributions to India's financial landscape, exemplifies the values of excellence and leadership fostered by IIT Kanpur. As he assumes this prestigious position, we are confident that his guidance will be instrumental in shaping the nation's economic future.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Malhotra on this exceptional accomplishment and wish him continued success in his distinguished role.

Prof. Rajat M***a has been instrumental in developing various critical applications in our country, such as smart card driving license, vehicle registration, e-passport, electronic toll collection, mobility card etc. He has played a key role in the National Supercomputing Mission, the National Microprocessor Initiative, and ADHAAR-based e-sign Mechanisms. At IIT Kanpur, he was responsible for developing several e-governance applications, such as smartcard-based driving licenses, vehicle registration system, and institute ID cards.

It is our honor and privilege to confer him with the Institute Fellow 2023 recognition.

He was bestowed with the award on the occasion of the 65th Foundation Day of the Institute on 2nd November.

Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi is an acclaimed academician, and his strong administrative acumen is widely known from his role as Director of three premier institutes in the country. His contributions to IIT Kanpur are immense. He has served IIT Kanpur in several important leadership roles, such as the Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, Dean of Research & Development, and Deputy Director. Several initiatives he took have helped shape the charter of these offices. He conceptualized and set in motion a major expansion of the institute infrastructure that has been completed only recently.

Prof. Pradip Sinha’s role in the establishment of the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering (BSBE) at IIT Kanpur is an example of outstanding leadership and team building. He outlined the educational vision and research infrastructure for the department - a solid foundation which has been contributing to the growth of BSBE into a leading center for world-class research and education in bioengineering. In addition, Prof. Sinha has made noteworthy contributions in cancer biology, in which he continues to be an active researcher and mentor.

Happy 65th Foundation Day of IIT Kanpur!

We were honored to have Shri Rajnath Singh ji, honorable Defence Minister as the Chief Guest.

The defence innovation event showcased the pioneering work of our startups at Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre, IIT Kanpur, which reflects our commitment to driving technological innovation and supporting self-reliance in defence.

It is my pleasure to mention that SIDBI is offering matching fund for defence startups at our incubator including iDEX-funded ones. Institute signed two major MoUs with BEML and HAL to drive advancements in military logistics and defence innovation, and with Kanpur University to strengthen incubation efforts. Six other MoUs were also signed with DRDO.

On the Foundation Day, we honor our legacy while looking toward a future of excellence. We proudly recognized the achievements of our distinguished faculty and alumni, whose successes reflect the values of IIT Kanpur and inspire future generations to make a meaningful impact in society.

I once again congratulate all esteemed Institute Fellows, awardees of 'Distinguished Alumnus Award' 'Distinguished Services Award', and 'Young Alumnus Award'.

Anurag Ji has been contributing significantly to enhancing the IITK stature through his exemplary services for about four decades now. He has been instrumental in organizing IIT Kanpur Conventions, Pan IIT Conclaves, and Inter IIT Sports and Cultural events. In March 2013, he organized the IITK Convention at IIT Delhi, which saw nearly 1350 participants. He was also the Chairman of the Steering Committee of IIT Kanpur Alumni Convention 2024, which witnessed more than 800 IITK alumni participation.

We are honored to select him for the Distinguished Services Award 2024.
