It was a privilege for Prof. Vinod Tare, Mentor & Advisor, cGanga, IIT Kanpur, to serve as the Keynote Speaker and Subject Expert at the seminar on "Groundwater Conservation and River Rejuvenation", organized by the District Ganga Committee, Kanpur Nagar, under the State Mission for Clean Ganga, Uttar Pradesh.
The event brought together officials from various government departments, technical experts, and stakeholders to discuss practical strategies for conserving groundwater, enhancing recharge, and rejuvenating our rivers through scientific and sustainable approaches.
During his address, Prof. Tare highlighted the importance of:
✅ Groundwater recharge throughout the year – monsoon period by converting rapid movement of water to sluggish movement of water through catchment management; And in non-monsoon period by developing local water systems as ecological infrastructure utilizing used water by appropriately balancing the wastewater treatment between STPs, nature-based systems, and natural systems along river corridors.
✅ Nature-based solutions for water conservation
✅ Integrated river basin management
✅ Community participation and institutional convergence
✅ Science-driven planning for long-term water security
Protecting groundwater today is essential for ensuring healthy rivers, resilient ecosystems, and sustainable livelihoods for future generations.
Together, let us work towards water-secure communities and rejuvenated rivers. 💙🌿
