In Memory of Shri. Niketu Iralu

The Dr. Amitabh Chowdhury Memorial Trust mourns with deep sadness the passing of Niketu Iralu Sir, a remarkable peace activist, thinker and tireless advocate for reconciliation in the Northeast.

We were deeply privileged to have Shri Iralu as the speaker at the 21st Dr. Amitabh Chowdhury Memorial Lecture, held on 19 December 2024, where he spoke on “The Northeast: Its Future – Our Common Responsibility.”

His words that evening were not merely a lecture. They reflected a lifetime devoted to peace, dialogue, reconciliation and the belief that even the deepest divisions can be bridged through understanding and human compassion.

For the Trust, his association with the Memorial Lecture was a matter of great honour. We remain profoundly grateful that he chose to share his wisdom, experience and vision with us, and that his voice became part of the continuing legacy of Dr. Amitabh Chowdhury’s own commitment to the Northeast and to a more peaceful society.
Iralu Sir leaves behind a legacy far greater than his years - a legacy of courage without confrontation, conviction without bitterness, and peace pursued with unwavering dedication.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and to all those whose lives he touched.

May his memory continue to inspire us to take forward the responsibility he spoke of so eloquently - to build a more peaceful, understanding and united Northeast.

Rest in peace, Niketu Iralu Sir.

The Trustees of Dr. Amitabh Chowdhury condole the sad demise of Prof. André Béteille renowned Sociologist and a reputed scholar. Prof. Béteille was a pillar of support to the Trust and had delivered the 9th Dr. Amitabh Chowdhury Annual Memorial Lecture on "Democratic politics keeping tribes, castes alive." RIP Sir 🙏

Celebrating creativity and the vibrant colours of childhood!

To honour the memories and to celebrate the life of revered Biraja Chowdhury the 1st Biraja Chowdhury Memorial Children Art Competition, themed "The Art of Joy: Embracing Life’s Vibrancy," was organised under the Aegis of the Dr.Amitabh Chowdhury Memorial Trust..The Commemorative Art Competition which brought together the young talents was indeed a beautiful success. Held on January 16th at the Srimanta Sankar Kristi Bikash Samiti, Paltanbazar Guwahati, the event brought together young artists who filled the day with joy and vibrancy.

Dr. Amitabh Chowdhury Memorial Trust deeply condoles the sad demise of Dr. Jagdev Singh Guleria, a distinguished and well respected physician, cardiologist, Padma Shri Awardee & Former Dean, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Dr. Jagdev Singh Guleria was a was an Institution in himself, a very accomplished Physician, an exceptional healer and an extraordinary and remarkable gentleman. Dr. Jagdev Singh Guleria belonged to that rare breed of old school doctors whose advice and treatment was so so valuable. With his demise, an era has ended. The Settlor and Trustees of Dr. Amitabh Chowdhury Memorial Trust extend their sincere condolences to his sons - Dr. Randeep Guleria, Dr. Sandeep Guleria and daughter Neeru Guleria and to all the members of the bereaved family. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
