We often tell ourselves,
“We’ll remove it later.”

But while we wait, the nail stays in the tree.
The wire remains tied around it.
And the damage can continue.

The advertisement may eventually disappear, but the wound left on a living tree may remain.

Driving a nail into a tree can wound its protective bark and damage living tissues underneath.

🔸 Risk of Infection
The wound can provide an entry point for fungi, bacteria and insects, potentially increasing the risk of decay.

🔸 Disruption to Water & Nutrient Transport
If the tree’s conducting tissues are significantly damaged, the movement of water and nutrients within the tree can be affected.

🔸 Reduced Structural Strength
Repeated nailing or drilling in the same area creates multiple wounds and may contribute to weakening the tree’s structure.

🔸 Nails Can Become Embedded
As a tree grows, it can gradually grow around an embedded nail, making future pruning or removal work more difficult and potentially damaging equipment.
