A Rajput (Hindi: राजपूत) is a member of one of the patrilineal clans of western, central, northern India and in some parts of Pakistan. Rajputs are descendants of one of the major ruling warrior classes in the Indian subcontinent, particularly North India. Although, much of Gujarat, Saurashtra, Rajasthan and Northwest India have presented significant source for their rise, colonization, back-and-f
orth migration and dominance across the sub-continent from Mahabharata and Vedic period. Especially the timeline between Maurya Empire to Gupta Empire along with Kshatrapas empires in Surashtra and post destruction of Vallabhi, from where emigration and settlements took place across the Rajputana and along with Rajputana it prevailed again far up the northern India and Himalayas. Rajputs - Kshatriya retained the hold across Rajputana and Kannauj empires until succeeding invasions and dominance of Mughals. After evenly distributed Rajput divisions in Saurashtra, Gujarat, and Rajasthan, current-day Uttar Pradesh is also a home to most of the Rajputs, although demographically the Rajput population and the former Rajput states are found spread through much the subcontinent, particularly in north, west and central India. Populations are found in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Saurashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Jammu, Punjab, Uttaranchal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra. There is no mention of the term Rajput in the historical record as pertaining to a social group prior to the 6th century AD. Rajputs rose to prominence during the 6th to 12th centuries, and until the 20th century Rajputs ruled in the "overwhelming majority" of the princely states of Punjab, Kashmir, Rajasthan and Saurashtra, where the largest number of princely states were found....
