To
Mrs. Mamata Banerjee,
The Hon'ble Chief Minister,
Government of West Bengal.
Subject: APPLICATION CONTAINING SOME DEMANDS FOR 30TH JUNE "HUL MAHA" AND OTHER DEMANDS CONCERNING THE 'HUL'.
Respected madam,
With due respect, I would like to express my gratitude for granting a Sectional Holiday on 30th June as a token of recognition for the "Santarh Hul". Madam, as you are aware that "Santarh Hul" was started on 30th June 1855 and ended in November, 1856. On this historical day of 30th June, 1855 at Bhagnadih, which is presently in Jharkhand state, a huge number of gathering of approximately 30000(Thirty Thousand) of Santarh farmers had been organised under the leadership of great leaders Sidu Murmu, Kanu Murmu, Chand, Bhairo, Phulo and Jhano against the tyranny of British administrators, Money lenders, Zamindars and Nilkar sahibs. The spark of "Santarh Hul" was witnessed in that gathering. On that occasion a decision has been made for a "Long March" to Kolkata to hand over a memorandum to the Governor-General of British Government about the oppressions and exploitations by those local authorities. A large number of other oppressed communities like Potters, Oil mongers, Cobblers, Scavengers, Momin communities and many other joined in that rally. The situation got uncontrolled when obstruction was made by those cruel local authorities. Eventually, the spark turned into a conflagration, which is remembered as "Santarh Hul". All the great leaders like Sidu, Kanu, Chand, Bhairo, Phulo, Jhano got martyrdom along with thousands of revolutionists. As per government's official record 10000(Ten Thousand) people had sacrificed their lives in that movement. But, actually, the number is unofficially more than 30000(Thirty Thousand) who had been done their ultimate sacrifice by fighting against the bullets, artilleries and many such modern weapons of British army with merely indigenous weapons like Bows and Arrows, Axes, Spears etc.
Importance of "Santarh Revolt" (1855) is very profound in the history of India and world. This revolt has been identified by many renowned world historians as the first freedom movement as well as the first armed mass-revolution of India. The historical "Long March" that started from Bhagnadih, currently in Jharkhand at Sahibganj district towards Calcutta(Kolkata) was the first mass rally of India and also of the world. It is found that no freedom movement under the British rule witnessed that much of blood sheds (More than 30000). This movement inspired all the freedom movements organised against British Empire in india later on as this had left severe impact upon British rule.
Madam, For your kind information today i.e. 23rd February is the day when Kanu Murmu, one of the great leaders of Santarh Hul(1855) got his martyrdom in 1856. Considering the significance of the day and the revolt in world scenario, I am placing on this sanct day of 23rd February some demands for proper acknowledgement of the date 30th June for your kind perusal . These demands are given below;
1. Declare the day 30th June as "The Revolution Day", in Bengali "বিপ্লব দিবস" and in Santarhi "Hul Maha" at the earliest.
2. Full- fledged statues of Sidu Murmu and Kanu Murmu should be constructed on 'Sidu-Kanu Dahaar'/ 'Sidu-Kanu Road' at Esplanade, Kolkata, at the earliest.
3. Not a sectional holiday for Adivasi (Santarh) only under list-lll, but this 30th June should be declared as "Observance Holiday" under list –ll (Holidays under the order of State Government) with immediate effect.
4. History of Santarh(Santal) revolution should be more elaborated and significantly described in the context of the history of Indian Freedom Fight in the syllabus of the books of West Bengal Government in schools and colleges.
Hence, madam, I believe by considering my basic demands not only Santarh Race but also every citizen of West Bengal as well as of India will be glorified in front of the whole world. Above all, after 171(One Hundred Seventy One) years those more than 30000(Thirty Thousand) martyr heroes will receive their actual homage indeed. Your sincerity and cooperation is highly solicited in this regard.
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,
(NAME IN CAPITAL LETTER)
