S F A Gillani, President, The Nature Alliance [TNA] calls on Hon’ble Chairman, House Committee on Environment, Mr. M Y Tarigami

Syed Farooq Ad. Gillani, IFS (Retd), Former Addl. Pr. Chief Conservator of Forest (APCCF) & President, The Nature Alliance [TNA] today called on Mr. M Y Tarigami, Hon’ble Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, at his residence in H1 Gupkar, Srinagar.
During the meeting, Mr. Gillani shared his long-standing experience and deep insights on environmental conservation and the challenges posed by climate change in Jammu & Kashmir.
The discussion centered around the urgent need for proactive environmental policies and sustainable development practices in the region by involving all the stakeholders.
Mr. Gillani also advocated for a robust system of environmental monitoring and evaluation of environmental projects to ensure that ecological concerns are adequately addressed during planning and implementation stages.
He also brought to the Hon’ble Chairman’s attention for restoration of the degraded urban water bodies like Khushalsar, Gilsar and particularly the Anchar Lake, which continues to face severe pollution and encroachment.
He suggested for immediate intervention and the formulation of a comprehensive conservation plan to protect these vital ecosystems.
Additionally, Mr. Gillani emphasized the importance of afforestation under the already ongoing Green J&K Drive. He shared the experience that the afforestation and community-based conservation efforts are key to combating climate change impacts and restoring ecological balance.
The Hon’ble Chairman appreciated Mr. Gillani’s concerns and assured that the House Committee on Environment will continue to take up these critical environmental issues with seriousness and commitment.
