World environment day
Protecting environment, our fundamental duty
Jammu, June 10:
Like previous years, Centre for Social Development and Research Foundation (CSDRF) undertook different activities to celebrate World Environment Day.
The programmes like plantations and educating the importance of Environment friendly bags to counter the disastrous effects of plastic bags were also held in different villages of sub division Akhnoor.
Though this year's World Environment Day theme was "Beat Plastic Pollution" with the theme aiming to address the pervasive issue of plastic waste and encourage global action to reduce its impact, multiple programmes were held to celebrate the day with main focus on plantation of trees.
The celebration took place at Dhok Jagir, Gopala and at Pangairi . Lattu Rani at pangairi expressed hapiness on planting of BUD tree in her village. She said her family and the villagers were planning to construct a temple near their house from last few years but could not materialise till date. It seems now with the plantation of BUD tree, known as Budda tree holding great significance in Buddhism, their desire has almost been fulfilled.
In Hinduism, the Peepal or Bodhi Tree is also revered, symbolizing spiritual growth and enlightenment. Sanjay Bhat, R L koul , Ashwani, Raju and sanjay kumar bhat were present on the occasion.
It may be mentioned CSDRF has been propagating and promoting citizens duties towards the nation, society and the nature.
Enshrined in the Indian Constitution under Article 51A, protection and preservation of environment is one of the fundamental duties.
"Protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wildlife and to have compassion for living creatures" is enshrined under Article 51A of the Constitution of India and CSDRF has been working for such fundamental duties stressing upon the people to plant more trees for preservation and protection of the environment.
