Are Sparrows Really Disappearing???
Viral posts are once again claiming that house sparrows have dropped by 97% in just five years due to mobile towers. Sounds alarming-but experts say this number isn’t backed by solid data.
What is true is that the beloved House Sparrow has been steadily declining, especially in big cities. But the reasons are far more straightforward-and closer to home:
🏙️Rapid urban construction
🌳Fewer trees and green spaces
🪺Loss of nesting spots in modern buildings Decline in insects (their main food source)
🦋Old-style homes with open spaces and crevices are now replaced by glass towers and sealed concrete walls-leaving sparrows with nowhere to live.
And what about mobile towers?🗼
Scientists say there’s no clear evidence that they alone are responsible. The real issue is how our cities are evolving.
