G20 Global Land Initiative

Under the G20 Global Land Initiative Restoration Return Grant Programme, Nath Sanskriti Seva Sansthan is running a comprehensive training programme in Shiv Block of Barmer district, Rajasthan, one of the most backward areas of the state. The programme focuses on empowering women farmers, agriculture students, youth, active farmers and senior farmers, and is conducting a series of practical training and restoration activities aimed at making barren lands cultivable again.

The key areas of training include land restoration practices, soil conservation, rainwater harvesting and tree plantation activities organised in collaboration with local rural communities. During these sessions, special emphasis is laid on integrating traditional agricultural knowledge with modern techniques.

In an interactive session, Om Prakash Singh, a senior farmer from Shiv Block, shared valuable information on traditional methods used in olden times to restore soil fertility. He explained how local farmers relied on organic techniques and indigenous knowledge to maintain productivity. The training also introduced new technologies, showing how old practices can be integrated with modern innovations to produce more efficient, cost-effective and sustainable farming.

This convergence of traditional and scientific knowledge is helping participants understand not only how to restore land, but also why reviving old methods may be important in today’s climate-challenged agriculture.
