Naturemates – Nature club has been successfully conducting cancer screening camps with the support of CNCI - Kolkata and Tata Medical Center - Kolkata for the last 3 years in the Patharpratima block, Sunderbans with permission from W. B. Health Department.
The film is on our work on cancer awareness and screening. “Asha’r Dehe - In the Body of Hope” has been selected as the Best Documentary Film at the 2nd Edition of the DHRUMA International Film Festival by Arpita from Green Hub.
To all those who feel inspired by the video, we request your support in this continued crusade, which is now driven by the local women across different villages in Patharpratima block of Sunderban.

Volunteers of Tata Consulting Engineers braved a scorching morning in joining hands with Nature Mates-Nature Club in planting hope for the future.
Held at our Banabitan Butterfly Conservatory , India's first such conservatory, the CSR effort included seed dibbling and sapling bag making. Volunteers enjoyed the efforts of planting mixed seeds which support the butterfly conservatory initiatives and expressed much interest in knowing about the beautiful and polite pollinators of this Earth.

What apparently looks like a CCTV camera can actually save a person's life from elephant attack! These detection devices can track elephant movement and spread awareness messages among the communities.

Nature Mates Nature Club, in collaboration with Ashraya Hastha Trust, SNAP Foundation and West Bengal Forest Department, has installed such early warning devices at the Panchet forest division of Bankura district as one of the mitigation strategies to tackle human-elephant conflict in the region.

The system is a solar powered device, runs on a SIM card and can send bulk messages whenever any movement of elephant is detected. In addition to conventional approaches such as generating awareness and capacity building at the individual level, such technological interventions at the landscape level can boost up the process of “conflict mitigation”.

The Ludlow’s Bhutan Glory Conservation (LBGC) project team from Nature Mates (NM) Kolkata, organised a workshop on habitat conservation in collaboration with the Singchung Bugun Village Community Reserve (SBVCR) and the Forest Department at Ramaling in Singchung subdivision of West Kameng district on Monday.

Sarika Baidya, researcher and Programme Manager at NM and team leader of the LBGC project, claimed that “Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary” has been steadily gaining recognition for its insect diversity. She believes that “it is high time for us to focus more on habitat conservation for the entire forest ecosystem and its biodiversity”.

This project is the first insect conservation initiative in India, dedicated to a single insect species and is supported by the Wildlife Trust of India’s Rapid Action Grant and the Segre Foundation. The project target has been to protect the endangered Ludlow’s Bhutan Glory in India working closely with the SBVCR and the Forest Department and spread awareness among local communities, highlighting the importance of “habitat conservation”. Discussions also shed light on the economical benefits of wildlife habitat conservation for the local communities through increased ecotourism.

EWS Range Officer Yachang Kani, stressing on the importance of the workshop, thanked Sarika Baidya and her team for organising the workshop and said that community members could learn a great deal about pollinators and habitat conservation through such workshops.
