The opening ceremony of the 7th Edition of the Late Tassar Sunjoy Memorial Football Tournament 2026 was held with great enthusiasm at Jollang, organised by the Jollang Nyokum Yullo Celebration Committee . The event witnessed the presence of community leaders, public representatives, and sports lovers, reflecting deep respect and remembrance for Late Tassar Sunjoy.
The programme was graced by Er. Chera Tare, extension officer (RE) as the Chief Guest, while Shri Tassar Jina, son of Late Tassar Sunjoy, attended as a Special Invitee, adding emotional significance to the occasion.
Other dignitaries present included Smti Techi Petal , ZPM of XI Baat Ganga Zilla Constituency and Overall In-charge of the celebration; Smti Kholi Purnima, Chairperson of Jollang Panchayat; and Shri Kipa Gungte, Chairperson of Lorr Baat.
Before the ceremonial kick-off, the entire gathering observed one minute of silence in memory of Late Shri Tassar Sunjoy as a mark of deep respect and tribute to the departed soul.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Tassar Jina expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the organising committee and all present. In his speech, he recalled that his father was a true sportsman at heart and that this memorial football tournament truly reflected his personality and passion for sports. He shared that Late Tassar Sunjoy was actively involved in games such as badminton and volleyball, and firmly believed in promoting youth through sports. He further mentioned that his father was also a founder member of the JVYWA (Jully Valley Youth Welfare Association), an organisation dedicated to youth welfare and social development in the Jully Valley area.
In his address, Er. Chera Tare highlighted the immense contributions of Late Tassar Sunjoy to the state and stated that his services would always be remembered. He thanked the Jollang Nyokum Yullo Celebration Committee for organising such a noble initiative, emphasizing that through this memorial tournament, the name of Late Tassar Sunjoy would continue to live on, keeping alive both the spirit of sportsmanship and the essence of Nyokum Yullo.
The opening ceremony concluded on a respectful and inspiring note, marking a meaningful beginning to the tournament and setting the tone for the days ahead.
