Girish Sharma "Aditya," a prominent collector and scholar of ancient Indian coins, has been awarded an honorary Doctor of Literature degree (specializing in Numismatics and Heritage Conservation) by the Russian Research University, Moscow. He received this prestigious honor during a convocation ceremony held at the Maple Gold complex in New Delhi, attended by distinguished personalities from India and abroad.
In a citation issued by the university, Chairman Professor Viktor Sadovnichy and Head of Secretariat Professor M.V. Kuznetsov described Girish Sharma's 56-year-long dedication to the study of coinage as a remarkable achievement. The citation also highlighted the lectures he delivered at the British Museum in London and at museums in Oxford.
During the ceremony, the university's India representative, Dr. Pushpendra Sharma, along with other renowned scholars, presented Mr. Sharma with the academic gown and the university medal. In his address, Mr. Sharma reiterated his pledge to donate his entire collection for the benefit of future generations by establishing a dedicated museum.
This honor has brought prestige to the nation, the state, and the city of Indore, extending its recognition as far as Russia.
