AMUCO is an Institution for organizing and mobilization of clubs for collective response to specific issues threatening the interiority and hence existence of Manipur. Manipur has been an independent kingdom for thousands of years before Manipur was defeated in Anglo Manipuri War of 1891. After becoming a part of the Indian Union, Manipur has witnessed many movements aimed to address political and economic issued faced by the people. With intensification of such movements in 1980s’ Manipur has also witnessed a rise of ethnic politics as a counter to various political movements which threatened to destroy the social harmony amongst various communities built through thousands of years of co-existence. In response to this situation threatening the existence of Manipur, All Manipur United Clubs Organization (AMUCO) has emerged as an organization for mobilizing voice of people against such ideas and policies of ethnic politics threatening to destroy the harmonious and peaceful coexistence of different communities of Manipur. AMUCO came into existence on 12th February 1993 with immediate task of restoring the historically developed harmonious divisive forces which threatened the harmonious living together of different ethnic communities of Manipur with the support of the people of Manipur organized through club in different localities. AMUCO in the course of mobilizing the voice of people against those idea and policies of threatening the integrity and hence existence of Manipur has come out with the slogan of “Live together” Struggle together and Grow together’ as the path to be undertaken by the people of Manipur for Unity, Development and Peace in Manipur.
