CEPHALIC GORMENT - IMPHAL, MANIPUR (2013–2015)
Before slam became a familiar name within the Northeast Indian extreme metal scene, there were already a handful of obscure projects experimenting with that filthy, guttural and brutally primitive sound.
Some of them disappeared almost as quickly as they emerged. Cephalic Gorment was one of those projects.
Active between 2013–2015, the project featured Kacnat on vocals, Ronext on guitar and Japan on guitar. Somewhere around early 2014, they unleashed a track titled 'Pig Anatomy Butcher' - a raw, guttural piece of Slamming Brutal Death Metal that sounds like it crawled straight out of the deepest corners of the purest underground.
'Pig Anatomy Butcher' stands as a raw and unpolished piece of Guttural Slamming Brutal Death Metal, representing the kind of primitive and uncompromising sound that was emerging within the underground during those early days.
And this was before streaming platforms became the main way of discovering music. Back then, underground music was DIY - sharing MP3s, burning CDs, exchanging files and simply passing music from one listener to another. If you wanted your music heard, you had to spread it yourself.
Back then, the slam wave was still developing across the Northeast region of India. A lot of these projects existed quietly, circulated among friends and underground listeners, and eventually disappeared - leaving behind recordings that were never heard by as many people as they perhaps deserved.
More than a decade later, 'Pig Anatomy Butcher' is one of those recordings worth digging through the archives for.
Not because it was the biggest or most recognised release. But because it was there when the sound was still evolving.
For the old-school slam listeners and anyone interested in digging deeper into the history of extreme metal from the Northeast, this one definitely deserves a listen.
