Students’ Union Leaders Commemorate Death Anniversary of Oinam Kenejy Killed in Blast
Feb 25, 2025: With a louder call for creating a violence-free and safer academic environment, the first death anniversary of Oinam Kenejy was commemorated on the campus of DM Science. Kenejy died in a tragic bomb attack at the AMSU Headquarters office in Imphal on the evening of February 23 last year, carried out by unidentified miscreants.
During the said bomb attack, the then 19-year-old Oinam Kenejy, who was studying BSc 5th Semester at DM College of Science-DM University, was killed, while another student was injured. The explosion, suspected to have been carried out with an improvised explosive device (IED), remains under investigation, with authorities yet to confirm any significant breakthroughs.
With a floral tribute at the memorial tomb of the deceased student, the commemoration, which also seeks answers and justice for the deceased, was organized by the DM University-HR Development Committee under the aegis of AMSU HQ and attended by family members and friends, along with Principal DM Science Dr. M. Bhubhaneshwari Devi, Advisor AMSU HQ Robindro Laishram, President AMSU HQ Bipinchandra Ahanthem, and Chairman DMU HRDC Laishram Krishnakant.
“We still seek answers and justice for our son,” said a grieving family member, urging the government to take action against those responsible. Meanwhile, student leaders at AMSU reiterated their demand for a safer academic environment, emphasizing the need to prevent such tragedies in the future.
