🌾 Nutri-Pathshala Showcased at FPO Conclave 2025! 💡🌾

Last week, the Nutri-Pathshala Initiative was showcased at the FPO Conclave 2025, in Prayagraj, India, organized by UPSRLM. During the event, Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister Shri Keshav Prasad Maurya, visited our stall to understand the key elements such as the Nutri Diary, Nutri-Dabba, and other innovative tools under the Nutri-Pathshala model. Through these initiatives, we aim to empower communities to embrace healthier food choices, improve nutrition knowledge, and foster sustainable development. 🌱💪

🌾 Public-Private Collaboration to Boost Biofortified Seed Access in Bihar! 🌾

On October 6th, HarvestPlus, in partnership with M/s G S Agro Pvt. Ltd., hosted a transformative one-day workshop in Gaya district under the Bihar-Odisha Nutrition Initiative (BONI). The event focused on creating demand for biofortified zinc wheat by engaging over 53 commercial stakeholders, including seed producers, distributors, dealers, retailers, and farmers. Senior government officials from Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) were also present.

The workshop's key focus was to:
1️⃣ Strengthen the distribution network for biofortified seeds through commercial stakeholders.
2️⃣ Enhance the private sector’s capacity with support from public institutions, emphasizing Public-Private Partnerships (PPP).

Together, we are improving access to nutritious, biofortified crops and building a stronger seed supply chain in Bihar! 💪🌾🌱

🌟 Scaling Up the HaNSA Program in Ayodhya 🌟

We are thrilled to announce the expansion of the HaNSA (Health and Nutrition for School Age Children) program in Ayodhya, increasing our reach from 175 to 3000 children! 🎉

Our mission is simple to address malnutrition among children by providing nutritious morning meals in local Anganwadi centers. Through the Nutri-Pathshala model, we aim to support children who are classified as SAM (Severely Acute Malnutrition) or MAM (Moderately Acute Malnutrition) in transitioning to a healthy, normal weight. This expansion is a major step towards improving child health outcomes, ensuring that each child receives the necessary nutrients for growth and development. Together, we're working towards a healthier future for the children of Ayodhya.

📝✨️🌾 A report recently published by the Crop Science Journal, co-authored by Mahalingam Govindaraj (PhD), Senior Scientist for Crop Development at HarvestPlus, outlines strategies aimed at enhancing the productivity, resilience, nutritional quality, and consumption of biofortified pearl millet, ultimately supporting food and nutritional security in India.

Here are some key takeaways:

🌏Pearl millet is a vital crop for over 90 million people in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. In India, pearl millet is the fourth most important food crop.

🌡️Pearl millet is known for its drought-resistance, ability to grow on less fertile soils, and provide nutritious grain for humans and livestock fodder.

🧬Genetic diversity in over 23,000 germplasm collections provides resources for economic traits, disease resistance, and nutritional quality.

💊Mainstreaming grain nutritional traits like iron and zinc contents is essential for developing nutrient-rich pearl millet.

✅Consumption can increase by reinforcing value chains, creating awareness about health benefits, and promoting through government schemes.
